Petition to John McCain regarding the North Carolina “Wright/Obama” ad
TO:

Senator John McCain
241 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

WHEREAS the North Carolina Republican Party’s “Jeremiah Wright” television commercial dealt with a serious issue – the longtime association of a presidential candidate, Barack Obama, with a racist hate-monger, Dr. Wright, and

WHEREAS the ad was fair regarding the extremism of Dr. Wright, as expressed in sermons distributed by his own church and in his longtime public association with the bigot Louis Farrakhan, and

WHEREAS the ad was also fair regarding the closeness, over decades, of Senator Obama in his association with Dr. Wright and with Dr. Wright’s church, and

WHEREAS it is the right of Republicans in North Carolina, and of any other concerned citizens in that state and across America, to draw attention to Senator Obama’s willful, extensive, longtime association with a prominent racist such as Dr. Wright, and

WHEREAS, the North Carolina ad focused on a state matter, the fact that both Democratic candidates for governor have endorsed Obama, and

WHEREAS it is the right and the duty of North Carolinians to hold their state’s candidates accountable for such errors in judgment, and

WHEREAS you reacted to the ad by insulting North Carolina Republicans as “out of touch with reality and the Republican Party” for running the ad,

THEREFORE, we the undersigned call upon you to apologize for your comments about the North Carolina Republican Party, and to cease and desist from such efforts to make political gains for yourself by demonizing conservatives and fellow Republicans.
