Romney Files on 5th Anniv of RomneyCare

By Michael O'Brian - The Hill | 4/11/11

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) said Monday that he'd filed paperwork to set up a presidential exploratory committee.

In a web video, recorded in New Hampshire, the first-in-the-nation primary state, Romney announced what many political observers had long expected: that he'd be seeking the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

The timing is especially interesting because it coincides with the five-year anniversary this week of Romney's having signed a healthcare reform bill into law as governor of Massachusetts.

Democrats spent the better part of Monday facetiously "thanking" Romney for helping pass that law, especially for its supposed inspiration of the national healthcare law President Obama passed through Congress last year.
