Bozell: Public Officals Should Boycott CNN El Paso Town Hall

Beto CNN
CNN has announced that Chris Cuomo will host a townhall event tonight, which is being billed as America Under Assault: The Gun Crisis.  Due to CNN’s blatant bias on the issue, our friend L. Brent Bozell, III, Founder and President of the Media Research Center, quickly called upon public officials to boycott tonight’s townhall in El Paso, Texas.

In a series of tweets Bozell ripped the failing cable network for shamelessly politicizing the recent mass murder in El Paso:

I’m calling on all public officials to boycott @CNN's disgraceful town hall in El Paso tomorrow night. It’s nothing more than a partisan political ratings stunt, and it dishonors the victims and their families.

And later:

We saw how @CNN’s town hall following the shooting in Parkland last year turned into a left-wing anti-gun political rally. There are no indications this event won’t be more of the same.

And finally:

@CNN’s shameless move to politicize this tragedy for ratings is disgraceful. Families are still burying their loved ones. If there’s a “gun crisis," why no town halls in Chicago or Baltimore?

And Brent Bozell is not the only conservative skeptical of how tonight’s event is going to play out. As Ken Meyer of Mediaite reminded us, the last time CNN held a town hall on gun violence it turned into a free-for-all where Second Amendment activist Dana Loesch was excoriated by the crowd following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

Many conservative political observers believe tonight’s Cuomo-hosted town hall will play out in similar fashion:

Curtis Houck, Managing Editor of the MRC’s NewsBusters @CurtisHouck tweeted:

Oh no. Another "grief porn thunderdome," @bethanyshondark https://twitter.com/tvnewser/status/1158445497348235264

Ben Shapiro @benshapiro weighed in tweeting:

Oh good, I'm sure this will go well and involve much journalisming https://twitter.com/tvnewser/status/1158445497348235264

Harry Khachatrian, Daily Wire Contributor @Harry1T6 tweeted:

I’m sure this will be very fair, reasonable and unbiased https://twitter.com/tvnewser/status/1158445497348235264

Virginia Kruta, Associate Editor of the Daily Caller @VAKruta also tweeted:

CNN hosting another gun violence town hall.

You know, because the last one was totally fair and not at all a biased, one-sided ambush of @DLoesch. https://twitter.com/tvnewser/status/1158445497348235264

Dana Loesch, @DLoesch, the victim of the ambush at the last CNN “townhall” had the last word via Twitter:

I wonder if this one will actually feature discussion on real solutions, unlike the last one? https://twitter.com/tvnewser/status/1158445497348235264

CHQ readers will recall that CNN hosted a similar town hall after the mass murder at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in February 2018. At the town hall, students asked Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), and Rep. Ted Deutch (FL-22) whether they would disavow the National Rifle Association and support bans on so-called "assault weapons."

At one point, our friends at the Washington Free Beacon reminded us, the CNN crowd cheered when Rubio mentioned the possibility of banning "every semiautomatic rifle sold in America." Rubio was later booed for suggesting that he would not support such a ban.

They also heckled NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch relentlessly, at one point calling her a “monster.”

Judging by CNN’s coverage the past few days we see no reason to expect this “town hall” will be any different.

Since the killings in El Paso they’ve had Democrat Luis Gutierrez on to proclaim “The Republican Party is owned by the NRA," and Trump “doesn’t care about people who are dying in Chicago from gun violence.” While anchor Jim Sciutto chimed in to say that Republicans are often motivated by their NRA ratings. And if that number isn't impressive enough, they get primaried. "That’s a fact," Sciutto said.

We’re skipping CNN’s phony and biased “town hall” and we urge elected officials and CHQ readers and friends to do likewise.
