Ken Cuccinelli For Secretary Of Homeland Security

Ken Cuccinelli
Of the many names that have been floated as possible replacements for acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan one stands out; former Virginia Attorney General and acting Director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli.

For starters, Ken Cuccinelli has three things that McAleenan lacked – a commitment to the Trump border security agenda, a willingness to fight Democrats and the Republican establishment to make the President’s agenda a reality, and the effective TV presence necessary to sell it to the American people.

Cuccinelli’s reputation as a no-nonsense lawyer and law enforcement official is a plus that some of the other contenders don’t have, but perhaps even more importantly, Cuccinelli has also proven himself to be an effective on air advocate of the Trump agenda and an adept and creative litigator.

Many outside the conservative movement may have forgotten that as Virginia’s Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli led the fight against Obamacare. Cuccinelli was the first AG to file suit against Obama’s disastrous attempt to take over the US health care industry, and it was Cuccinelli’s thinking outside the box approach to fighting Obamacare and his persistence in picking out each brick of the Obamacare edifice that helped bring the disaster down.

And that same kind of methodical, persistent, attention to the details of immigration law is what it is going to take to put on the President’s desk policies and departmental action that will enforce our immigration laws and protect American sovereignty in the face of Leftwing judicial activism and Democrat obstruction.

Ken Cuccinelli also has another advantage that some of the other alleged contenders lack – he’s not going to apologize for being a conservative and believing that President Trump is right, and that American sovereignty is worth protecting.

And, truth be told, that was Kevin McAleenan’s greatest defect.

Even though he went up to the Hill and on TV and generally said all the right things, there was a steady drip of rumors, leaks and suggestions that he didn’t really believe what he was saying and that he was more in tune with the Jeb Bush “illegal immigration is love” point of view.

That’s not going to happen with Ken Cuccinelli at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security.

There’s a final point that may seem like inside baseball but is very important to getting a new Secretary of Homeland Security confirmed and running the Department effectively – knowing how Capitol Hill and big federal bureaucracies work.

We’ve seen some good outsider-type appointees come to grief because they didn’t get how Washington and the federal bureaucracy work, and they didn’t appreciate that the Left, the Deep State in their agencies and congressional Democrats would be gunning for them every day.

Ken Cuccinelli has the outsider connection with the conservative grassroots and the limited government constitutional conservative movement, but he’s already been through the fire of fighting the Left and having Democrats after his head, and he not only survived, but thrived.

"Ken's not afraid of anything," said Mark Lloyd, one of the founding leaders of the Virginia Tea Party Patriots. "When he takes a stand, that's it. There's not a lot of squish to him—he's got a spine. He's got a little bit of that Ronnie Reagan thing working."

When Kirstjen Nielsen resigned as Secretary of the Department 36 conservative movement leaders including Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese, former Sen. Jim DeMint, Al Regnery, Brent Bozell, Ginni Thomas, Jenny Beth Martin and CHQ Chairman Richard Viguerie sent a letter to President Trump supporting the appointment of Ken Cuccinelli for Secretary of Homeland Security.

As far as we know nothing has changed, in fact given his success as acting Director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services conservative support for Cuccinelli is stronger than ever.

Cuccinelli not only is a favorite of many constitutional conservatives, but he’s perfect to carry out Trump’s agenda at DHS. He has synergy with Trump as a no-nonsense immigration hawk. Like Trump, Cuccinelli is a strong law-and-order Republican; yet, both showed wisdom leading the charge to pass and enact the bipartisan, landmark criminal justice reform bill called the First Step Act.

Among the assets Trump would find with Cuccinelli is his ability to clearly articulate conservative positions even in a liberal-dominated television environment. As a CNN analyst, Cuccinelli was always outnumbered, but he never backed off articulating the principled conservative side of things.

Running the Department of Homeland Security for President Trump, and getting the Trump agenda accomplished will take spine, smarts, media savvy and the ability to think creatively to get the job done. Of all the good names that have surfaced Ken Cuccinelli is the only candidate who checks all those boxes, which is why we urge President Trump to nominate him for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan

I disagree with what you stated in your column on Kevin McAleenan. I watched him in front of congress and he basically blamed the Democrats for handcuffing him and his position to improve our border. Instead, I feel by him with drawing himself from this job, is that he was not going to go anywhere to improve anything, when all we have seen from the Democrats is to continually put stops in everything that our President Trump does to try to improve our nation, plus many of the men and women who work for him. I am upset, with you not seeing this and saying negatives against him! I believe in fair play, but I consider what you wrote is not fair to this man! God Bless whoever takes his place, as he will meet the same challenges!
