Conservatives Go After Riggleman For Joining Democrats On Syria Vote

Denver Riggelman
The grassroots campaign to replace RINO GOP Rep. Denver Riggleman with a solid liberty-loving conservative gained more steam after Riggleman abandoned President Trump once again to vote with the Democrats.

In a letter to the BlueRidgeIndependent.com, Karen Hochstetter of Flint Hill, VA wrote:

Once again, Denver Riggleman votes with ALL the Democrats – this time to oppose President Trump’s wise decision to remove US troops from northern Syria.

ALL members of the House Freedom Caucus supported the president and voted NO.

James Madison, our own Fifth District’s historical representative to Congress, wrote these words:

“Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied; and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

—James Madison, Political Observations, Apr. 20, 1795 in: Letters and Other Writings of James Madison, vol. 4, p. 491

Virginia Patriots now have an opportunity to remove the Constitutionally ignorant dissembler Denver Riggleman from office, to be replaced by Constitutional Conservative Bob Good.

The Bob Good to whom Ms. Hochstetter refers is principled limited government constitutional conservative Bob Good, who currently sits in the Campbell County Board of Supervisors and serves as the senior associate athletics director and chief fundraiser for athletics at Liberty University.

Mr. Good has officially entered the race to represent Virginia's 5th Congressional District, thereby challenging incumbent RINO Rep. Denver Riggleman.

"Denver Riggleman has betrayed the trust of the conservative Republican base that comprises the bulk of the 5th District with his votes against the border wall in favor of increased immigration, frankly, ignoring President Trump's policy on American jobs for American workers, and even restricting the ability of ICE to do their jobs, just to name a few,” he told The Hill in an interview.

To those earlier betrayals we can now add Riggleman’s vote to betray President Trump and keep Americans in harm’s way in Syria. (For why Trump is right on Syria click the link to our article “Lindsey Graham Gets The Kurds And Syria Backwards.”)

In voting for the Resolution condemning President Trump put himself on the same side as anti-liberty Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, who called the President “reckless” and claimed the action benefited Russia.

And put himself in opposition, not only to President Trump, but the principled limited government constitutional conservatives who make up the House Freedom Caucus.

We think the House Freedom Caucus’s former Chairman, Rep. Mark Meadows had it right when he said of the Democrats’ Resolution, “[The] resolution’s taking on a political tinge that I don’t necessarily agree with, which disappoints me… It’s more of a condemnation than a maneuvering gesture. If it was constructive then I would be willing to entertain it on the merits, and I’m looking into [a] sanctioning bill.”

Meadows added as he went to vote, “You know, if [Foreign Affairs Chair Eliot] Engel’s serious,” House Democrats should vote on a bill “that says we want to go to battle with Turkey and Syria. I can’t imagine that they would be quite as bold. Can you?”

We can’t imagine RINO Riggleman would be that bold either.

We doubt any conservative who worked in Riggleman’s hard-fought 2018 campaign expected they would have to turn around and work to defeat him in 2020, but based on this latest betrayal it looks like Mr. Riggleman brought this on himself.
