Assault on America, Day 301: Jane Fonda and Dems give new meaning to ‘Nothing to See Here’

Hanoi Jane gets arrested
Sometimes you just got to wonder whether the media’s plain run out of things to talk about.

Even with the ongoing impeachment inquiry drama in Washington, the heated (not!) 2020 Democrat presidential primary race and various sports stories of national if not world relevance (the World Series and the NBA’s petulant fight with Vice President Mike Pence over China), some elements of the media can’t take their focus off of ridiculous publicity stunts from washed-up celebrities seeking to draw attention to themselves and some stupid leftist cause they’re championing.

As a shining example of the phenomenon, longtime liberal activist Jane Fonda -- who is now 81 years-old -- was arrested for the third week in a row last Friday within shouting distance of the capitol building. Fonda seems to think repeatedly being led away from the scene by the police will “raise awareness” of various doomsday causes she espouses. While it appears the brain-dulled communist sympathizer and ex-wife of Ted Turner no longer travels to authoritarian dictatorships to protest her own country, she’s still making a spectacle of herself.

“Hanoi” Jane was even joined in the effort this past week by another opportunistic Hollywood personality with too much time on his hands. Madison Dibble reported at The Washington Examiner, “Actors Ted Danson and Jane Fonda were arrested at the Capitol while protesting inaction on climate policy, marking the third consecutive Friday arrest for Fonda.

“Fonda, 81, has been hauled off in zip ties the past two Fridays in an attempt to raise awareness about her concerns on climate change. Following her first arrest on Oct. 11, Fonda vowed to make the spectacle a weekly occurrence.

“’I’m going to take my body, which is kind of famous and popular right now because of the series, and I’m going to go to D.C., and I’m going to have a rally every Friday,’ she said. ‘It’ll be called ‘Fire Drill Friday.’ And we’re going to engage in civil disobedience, and we’re going to get arrested every Friday.”

Oh joy! For those who really care about what an octogenarian actress long past her prime thinks about topics like climate change and women’s rights, Fonda intends to provide fodder for gossip columnists and bored journalists for the foreseeable future! One wonders whether she’ll be bailing herself out (or is she simply fined and released because she’s so old and kind of senile?) while it’s snowing in January and February -- there’s no better way to “raise awareness” of the dangers of global warming than while delicate white snowflakes are gently falling from the heavens.

Dibble further reported that each Fonda arrest has a theme. Last week’s was “Oceans Can’t Wait,” and this week’s stupidity-fest (on Friday) will be called “Women Can’t Wait.” Huh? What does the radical feminist cause have anything to do with global climate change? Thankfully, Fonda preemptively enlightened us, “While the climate crisis threatens everyone, it especially impacts vulnerable populations, including women and girls. The good news is that promoting women’s rights, increasing women and girls’ education, advancing reproductive justice and centering women and girls in climate solutions works.”

It does? Liberals and Democrats are having a difficult enough time making the connection between supposed earthly warming and “real” issues such as Islamic terrorism, illegal immigration and other national security threatening dilemmas, so how is it Fonda gets away with claiming girls and women are especially condemned to hardship? Like with every other leftist hallucination, there appears to be a serious contradiction here.

On the one hand, hardened femmes like Fonda claim females are just as robust and intelligent and capable as men to do anything a boy or male can do, yet they also demand special privileges and protection due to women’s unique biology. Let’s get this straight -- a warming climate and retreating glaciers and dying polar bear populations (which turned out to be a complete myth, by the way) are having a disparate and negative effect on women vis-à-vis men? How?

For years climate alarmists asserted that coastal populations are at risk from rising sea levels and dangerous amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (as a result of fossil fuel burning combustion engines, industries and flatulating cows (methane?)). Hence, the gradual increase in the earth’s mean temperature results in catastrophic weather events (like hurricanes and tornadoes) as well as impacts cities close to oceans and other large bodies of water. Many of these same people likely own expensive waterfront properties (like the Obamas on Martha’s Vineyard) but they’re making much political hay by traveling around spreading hooey about things most people wouldn’t even think about unless a famous name is attached to it.

These contemporary Paul Reveres (the climate is coming!, the climate is coming!) see themselves as doing a valuable public service by carrying signs, delivering speeches at the Democrat convention every fourth year and occasionally being seen riding in the back of police cruisers to the local police station. Nothing ever results from their public stunts but the media sure loves it when they make fools of themselves!

In addition, what does it mean to “raise awareness” of something anyway? Liberals use the term an awful lot whenever they feel that some pet movement of theirs is underreported and unknown to the public at large. But what person in 2019 isn’t “aware” of the left’s obsession with climate change and trumped up women’s issues? Read the daily version of the New York Times or Washington Post, or (insert liberal dominated publication here) or switch on to CNN or MSNBC or one of the network establishment media outlets and you can’t help but be bombarded with the latest rantings about a wealth of topics closely related to the Democrat agenda.

If a TV journalist can’t be seen with a concerned look on his or her face while pretending to care about issue x or y, then they haven’t made the bigtime. Then, every once in a great while, one of them -- like former 60 Minutes correspondent Lara Logan -- opens up about the blatant leftwing bias in the media and all heck breaks loose. The “awareness” takes a turn in the other direction, and liberals don’t sanction it. Being “aware” only goes so far!

Or if you truly want real “awareness” (or wokeness), simply access one of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s social media sessions and you can’t help but be lambasted with hysteria concerning everything from “climate change” to world overpopulation to the evils of eating meat and male oppression in its various forms. Simply living in today’s smartphone dominated culture means you’re all-too “aware” of whatever the tech barons and media minds want you to be -- but still the morons persist!

Besides, why are the police bothering with arresting idiots like Fonda and Ted Danson in the first place? The 71-year-old latter has made a career out of his decade-long (in the 80’s and 90’s) presence on the legendary sitcom “Cheers,” playing the lovable skirt-chasing former alcoholic dunce Sam Malone opposite female leads Shelley Long and Kirstie Alley. Granted I don’t know much about Danson’s post-Cheers work -- and he’s supposedly been busy -- but what does it matter what he thinks about environmental science…or anything else for that matter?

Does Danson agree with Fonda that “climate change” has an even greater impact on girls and women (than on men)? Shouldn’t someone ask the world’s beautiful people to explain where they get these crackpot theories?

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump’s doing a little awareness-raising of his own, but it probably won’t get a warm reception in the editorial strategy rooms of the mainstream establishment media. Jessica Campisi reported at The Hill, “President Trump went after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Twitter early Saturday morning, slamming the lawmaker’s San Francisco district as ‘very bad and dangerous’ and criticizing Democrats’ impeachment inquiry against him.

“’I can’t believe that Nancy Pelosi’s District in San Francisco is in such horrible shape that the City itself is in violation of many sanitary & environmental orders, causing it to owe the Federal Government billions of dollars - and all she works on is Impeachment,’ Trump tweeted.

“He continued: ‘We should all work together to clean up these hazardous waste and homeless sites before the whole city rots away. Very bad and dangerous conditions, also severely impacting the Pacific Ocean and water supply. Pelosi must work on this mess and turn her District around!’”

There you have it. The president of the United States took time to air his views via social media on matters of great environmental interest -- the polluted living conditions in one of America’s fabled cities, as well as express his concern about the health of the Pacific Ocean -- and what credit does the media give him? Just because Trump doesn’t engage in a staged exploit involving the police doesn’t mean he isn’t serious about highlighting real problems.

How do we know the issues are authentic as opposed to hypothetical and conjectural? Walk down the street in downtown San Francisco and you just might step on the human-generated excrement situation. Or you could come in contact with hypodermic needles, contract a contagious medieval disease like Bubonic Plague or Typhus, or maybe even be hounded for spare change from some miscreant adjacent to a tent city.

Why the heck aren’t Jane Fonda and Ted Danson out there “raising awareness” about the pathetic conditions found in every Democrat-controlled major urban center (which pretty much covers them all)? The police would probably appreciate the additional attention celebrities generate. And instead of wasting everyone’s time on fruitless witch hunts like impeachment, liberal politicians might come out from behind their walled private enclaves and pass laws to help solve the tribulations of actual human beings.

But such is life in our bored media culture, where they’d much rather waste time and money following Fonda and Danson around in their ridiculous quests for incarceration. Or dialing into actress Alyssa Milano’s latest objection to a state’s passing abortion restrictions to save the lives of the unborn. Human dignity matters, right? Doesn’t anyone care about stuff like that?

Wherever there are famous people pulling stupid stunts (like Jane Fonda getting arrested every week to “raise awareness” on climate change), there will be establishment media sources close by seeking sensationalism and something to talk about. If people would simply stop watching… perhaps the absurdity would cease.
