Trump Nails Reason Pelosi Is Withholding Articles Of Impeachment

Sleepy Joe Tweet
As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has observed, Pelosi and the House Democrats don’t really gain any leverage over Senate Republicans by withholding something the Senate doesn’t really want, namely the impeachment of President Trump.

But what if the real reason Pelosi has refrained from sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate has nothing to do with Trump?

On New Year’s Eve President Trump raised that possibility as he blasted Democrats and said they will "do anything to avoid" his Senate impeachment trial just to "protect" former Vice President Joe Biden.

Republicans have threatened to call Democrats -- including Biden and his son, Hunter -- to testify in a Senate impeachment trial and Democrats have angrily objected, even though the entire basis of their articles of impeachment is Trump’s alleged targeting of the Bidens.

Trump’s comments (as the President’s best stuff often does) came in a tweet. He wrote: "The Democrats will do anything to avoid a trial in the Senate in order to protect Sleepy Joe Biden, and expose the millions and millions of dollars that 'Where's' Hunter, & possibly Joe, were paid by companies and countries for doing NOTHING. Joe wants no part of this mess!"

President Trump has a point, as the past week of negative press for Biden has demonstrated.

Sleepy Joe got to spend a good chunk of his all-important pre-Iowa caucuses interview with Des Moines Register editorial board trying to explain why he would or would not comply with a Senate subpoena to testify at Trump’s trial.

And the former Vice President didn’t come off looking real great.

CNN reported Biden said he wouldn't comply with a subpoena "because it's all designed to deal with Trump doing what he's done his whole life -- trying to take the focus off him."

When asked if defying a congressional subpoena could create the appearance that he is above the law, Biden held that his testimony would enable the President to "get away" from the trial's focus.

"Look, the grounds for them to call me would be overwhelmingly specious. But so I don't anticipate that happening anyway. But what it would do -- if I went, let's say I voluntarily, just said let me go make my case, what are you going to cover?" he asked, referring to the press.

"You guys, instead of focusing on him, you're going to cover for three weeks anything I said. And he's going to get away."

Got that?

Biden bragging that he threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid to Ukraine if they didn’t fire the prosecutor who was investigating his son’s cushy employer, the corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma, has nothing to do with anything.

So, questions about the Bidens, which are the foundation of the charges against Trump, are “overwhelmingly specious.”

Biden’s opponents in the fast-approaching Iowa Democratic Party caucuses quickly pounced, as did some in the media, who pointed out refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas is one of the reasons Trump is being impeached.

Zack Budryk of The Hill reports Biden’s opponent in the Democratic Primary, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, said Saturday that the former Vice President should comply with any lawfully issued Senate subpoena after reports from the Des Moines Register interview surfaced in which Biden suggested he would not do so.

On the campaign trail in Iowa, the Massachusetts senator commented on Biden's involvement as a witness in the impending impeachment trial to a gaggle of press. Mr. Budryk reports a reporter for CBS, Zak Hudak, shared footage of the lawmaker on Twitter.

“Donald Trump is being impeached for abuse of power, and that’s where our focus should be. Shame on him for trying to switch this over to something else,” Warren told reporters in Iowa. “But Joe Biden has said that he has always abided by every lawful order, and if there’s a lawful order on a subpoena, then I assume he would follow it.”

Anytime your opponent can legitimately put “abuse of power” and your name in the same sentence is not a good day on the campaign trail for you.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board was even tougher, pointing out the double standard in Biden’s statement, while CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett had a lengthy interchange on a One-on-One segment, during which Doggett dropped this bomb on Biden: “…they're all subject to subpoena, so that would be up to the Senate. Better to have more witnesses than to have no witnesses.”

Better to have more witnesses than no witnesses is exactly what Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the Democrat leadership have been tailoring the record to avoid. If Democrats want witnesses in the Senate trial then of course Republicans will rightly claim the testimony of Joe and Hunter Biden, and evidence regarding their corruption, which goes directly to the basis of Trump’s impeachment, should be allowed.

And that is something, as the President pointed out, that Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat establishment cannot allow.

The toll-free Capitol Switchboard number (1-866-220-0044), we urge CHQ readers and friends to call their Senators to demand that Joe and Hunter Biden be called as witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump.
