Lindsey Graham Joins Democrats Opposes Trump And Barr On NYC U.S. Attorney

You can always tell a member of the Republican establishment by how willing he or she is to cede the power of their office to the Democrats, and few on Capitol Hill have more regularly handed over their own considerable power than has alleged Republican Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the powerful Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Graham, whose stock rose in conservative circles when he brilliantly defended Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing, and likewise effectively defended President Trump during the Democrats’ impeachment hoax, seemed to cement his place in the MAGA coalition by promising hearings and subpoenas to get to the bottom of the Deep State coup against President Trump.

Graham in May promised that the Senate Judiciary Committee — which is responsible for oversight of the Justice Department, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation — would "look long and hard" into how the investigation into the Trump campaign's interactions with Russia during the 2016 presidential election started. He then repeated that it was necessary to probe the origins of the Russia investigation in interviews with the media, reported Oliver Darcy of CNN Business.

But in the face of Democrat opposition on the Floor of the Senate and within the Judiciary Committee Sen. Graham has done little to make good on those promises.

As Tucker Carlson put it, "When he [Sen. Graham] goes on cable news, not on this show, but in others, and he makes these claims, 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. I'm fighting for you.' And then he doesn't."

Sen. Graham’s inaction in the face of Democrat opposition has been bad enough, but he has now gone from failure to act to actually giving away his power to act.

After Attorney General William Barr and President Trump decided to remove Geoffrey Berman as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York – and Berman bizarrely refused to resign, instead apparently preferring to be fired – Democrats went nuts claiming the firing was further evidence that Trump was using the Justice Department to protect himself and his allies.

"Last night’s news raises yet more fundamental questions about the rule of law in the Trump Administration, and heightens extraordinary concerns about an attorney general who seems to subvert his duty to seek impartial justice in order to further the political interests of the president," said Biden's deputy campaign manager and communications director, Kate Bedingfield.

“This late Friday night dismissal reeks of potential corruption of the legal process. What is angering President Trump? A previous action by this U.S. Attorney or one that is ongoing?” Senate Minority Leader Democrat Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a statement reported by The Hill’s Tal Axelrod, later calling on the Justice Department’s internal watchdog to investigate the ouster.

So, who is Lindsey Graham giving the power to appoint as the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York?

New York’s two Democrat Senators, that’s who.

Graham said Saturday he will not take up President Trump's nomination for a new U.S. attorney for Manhattan unless New York's Democratic senators sign off.

The alleged Republican Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary said he will honor the "blue slip" tradition and require the consent of home state senators to proceed -- in this case, Democrats Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.

Never mind that Obama fired all the Republican appointed U.S. Attorneys and appointed a long list of Democrat political operatives and hacks to key Justice Department positions – starting with his two Attorneys General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.

“According to Attorney General Barr, the Trump Administration intends to nominate Mr. Jay Clayton to be U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York," Marisa Schultz of Fox News reported Graham said in a statement Saturday. “I have not been contacted by the Administration in this regard. However, I know Mr. Clayton and believe him to be a fine man and accomplished lawyer."

Graham said, however, that he won't proceed until the New York senators give their consent, known as a blue slip.

“As to processing U.S. Attorney nominations, it has always been the policy of the Judiciary Committee to receive blue slips from the home state senators before proceeding to the nomination," Graham continued. "As chairman, I have honored that policy and will continue to do so.”

Schumer and Gillibrand oppose Clayton's nomination and have called on him to withdraw his name from consideration.

There is only one possible explanation for Senator Graham’s behavior is this matter: He thinks Democrats are going to take the majority in the Senate in the 2020 election and he wants to curry favor with the presumptive Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Charles Schumer of New York.

The toll-free Capitol switchboard is (1-866-220-0044), we urge CHQ readers and friends to call Senator Graham to tell him President Trump deserves to exercise the full power of his office to appoint any qualified person to the office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Tell him the so-called Senate tradition of honoring “blue slips” gives Democrats a power over President Trump that they never gave Republicans when Obama was President and that you demand he stop ceding the power of the Republican majority in the Senate to Democrats who will never reciprocate if they take back the majority in 2020.

Federal Attorneys

Bill Clinton fired all 92 Federal Attorneys because one was investigating Whitewater.

It was a scandal when George Bush fired eight who refused to investigate election irregularities.

Now it's a scandal when Donald Trump fires one.

Graham and his rino ways

Mr. Graham, I have not contributed to your campaign because I remember all the years you followed the more infamous rino around like a puppy dog. That would be the late infamous McCain. McCain had the same habit you do of turning on the hands that fed him. You will obviously continue this way until your death too as apparently you either know how to use the vote fraud machines or the people of your state like what you do. What I can tell you is no one else can possibly trust you.

We really need term limits to clean up the DC cesspool of floaters like you. Thanks for the reminder recently of why I have always distrusted you.
