Pay Attention To Joe Biden’s Threat To Transform America

Joe Biden tweet
Over the Independence Day weekend likely Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden tweeted, “We're going to beat Donald Trump. And when we do, we won't just rebuild this nation — we'll transform it.”

Having already experienced eight years of the Obama – Biden administration’s efforts at “fundamentally transforming the United States of America,” we here at CHQ take Biden’s tweet as both a promise and a threat.

The UK’s Daily Mail proposed that Biden's tweet Sunday suggests he is veering more towards a radical agenda, even though he continues to appeal to establishment and more moderate Democrats.

But as we have pointed out in many columns, Joe Biden is not and never has been a “moderate.”

Setting aside Biden’s rapidly increasing propensity to have brain freezes and bizarre episodes of confusion out on the campaign trail, the former VP has revealed himself to be no “moderate” on issue after issue.

Early evidence that Biden is no moderate came in a last-minute pre-Super Tuesday rally in Texas where he trotted out former Texas Congressman and presidential aspirant Robert Francis O’Rourke AKA “Beto the fake Hispanic” for an endorsement.

“Beto the fake Hispanic” flopped as the Democrats’ candidate against Sen. Ted Cruz and as one of Biden’s opponents for the Democrat nomination for President primarily because, wait for it… his radical policies didn’t sell, especially his plan to confiscate the legally purchased guns of law-abiding citizens.

But as evidence of his “moderation” Sleepy Joe wants to put “Beto the fake Hispanic” in charge of gun policy in the imaginary Biden presidency.

This is chilling. O'Rourke repeatedly said he would send armed agents door-to-door to forcibly take away firearms from law-abiding Americans – and Joe Biden is apparently on board because  he "guaranteed" that he will put “Beto the fake Hispanic”  in charge of "leading the effort" to "take care of the gun problem."

And Biden is no “moderate” on abortion either.

As the Los Angeles Times reported, the last time Biden cast a vote in the Senate — 2008 — the ban on federal funds for abortion, known as the Hyde Amendment, was widely accepted by Republican and Democratic lawmakers, as well as mainstream abortion-rights groups.

By the time the Obama administration ended, by contrast, Democrats had adopted a call for repeal of the Hyde Amendment as part of their 2016 party platform, and now Biden wants it as part of his platform too.

Biden once voted to ban certain abortion procedures conducted late in pregnancy and was proud of his “middle of the road” position against the federal funding of abortion, as he wrote in his 2007 book, “Promises to Keep.”

Last summer the Biden campaign reaffirmed he still supported the longtime ban on using taxpayer funds to pay for abortions under Medicaid, a health program for low-income persons.

However, after an outcry from other Democrats and abortion-rights supporters, within 24-hours he reversed course and, in line with his party’s official policy, now opposes any restrictions on abortion up to and including the moment of birth.

Back in February, our friend Deroy Murdock posted a great column about the Democratic Party’s shift to the Left which we caught on NewsMax.

Mr. Murdock’s point was that while not all of those in the race for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President were full-blown socialists, like Senator Bernie Sanders, the balderdash that they are even vaguely centrist is either desperately uninformed or deliberately dishonest.

Jeff Jacoby, writing for the liberal Boston Globe assessed Joe Biden’s “moderation” this way: “…the former vice president would be the most liberal Democrat ever nominated for president.”

According to Mr. Jacoby, while Biden takes flak from the Far Left, in reality, he is running on a platform far more progressive — i.e., far less moderate — than any Democratic presidential nominee in history.

Jacoby then documented how, on issue after issue, Biden is sharply to the Left of his old Boss, Barack Obama:

On health insurance, for example, Obama rejected a public option as part of the Affordable Care Act and repeatedly stressed the importance of maintaining private coverage. But Biden favors a public option open to everyone, including the majority of Americans with employer-sponsored health coverage.

Biden supports government-funded health care even for unauthoritzed immigrants, something Obama never came close to proposing. He supports a sharp increase in US refugee admissions and a path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants. When Obama ran for the White House in 2008, by contrast, it was as an enforcement-first hard-liner. He cracked down so hard on those who crossed the border illegally, he was known for much of his presidency as the “deporter-in-chief.”

No Democratic presidential nominee ever endorsed anything like the radical Green New Deal, with its price tag in the tens of trillions of dollars and its goal of eliminating the use of all fossil fuels. But Biden does. No Democratic nominee ever called for a national minimum wage of $15 an hour. But Biden does. The former vice president has moved emphatically leftward on abortion, on the death penalty, on free trade. By any understanding of “moderate,” as that term was used when Obama or Bill Clinton was president, Biden is no moderate.

To paraphrase what Peter Suderman wrote in an analysis of Joe Biden for Reason, Biden’s leftward drift is the Democratic Party’s leftward shift…, a big-government liberal, a candidate whose current incarnation was shaped and informed by progressive politics, if not wholly captured by them.
