Romney Drowns Gingrich and Santorum in Toxic Sludge

As CHQ Chairman Richard Viguerie noted in a recent column, the Republican establishment is waging a desperate fight to hold on to power -- and for the past ten days, ground zero in that fight has been Florida and its Republican presidential primary.

The results are in and the establishment’s chosen Republican presidential candidate -- former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney -- has won Florida’s Republican presidential primary in a barrage of negative advertising that has stunned even the mainstream media that are generally inclined to support him.

According to Newsmax and the Campaign Media Analysis Group (CMAG), which monitors political ads in Florida, an astonishing 99 percent of the 3,276 ads paid for by the Romney campaign were deemed negative, while 100 percent of the 4,969 spots sponsored by the pro-Romney Restore Our Future PAC were considered negative.

And not only were Romney’s ads more negative, there were more of them. Statistics compiled through last Wednesday by The Miami Herald show more than 13,500 ads on behalf of Romney aired in the state, more than half of them funded by the Super-PACs. Only about 200 ads had aired on behalf of Gingrich.

Conservative former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was not immune to the attacks either, with heavy direct mail assaults aimed his way after he booked a photo finish with Romney in Iowa and was later declared the winner of that state’s Republican caucuses.

But conservatives who claim Romney’s victory in Florida was somehow unfair or ill-deserved are fooling themselves.

Romney’s scorched earth advertising campaign may have been unprecedented, but it was hardly the only reason Romney won. Romney out-organized the conservative candidates, despite an obvious enthusiasm gap in favor of Santorum and especially Newt Gingrich.

According to The Miami Herald’s analysis, before the first ballot was even cast on Election Day, Romney had a cushion of early votes that could have exceeded 60,000. While the other campaigns were silent in early January, Romney advertised on radio and television and aggressively called and mailed early voters, who cast more than 632,000 ballots.

To book his convincing win in Florida, Mitt Romney out-organized, out-spent and out-gunned his conservative opponents. To his credit, Ron Paul saw this coming and stayed well away from Florida, likely emerging with less of the toxic sludge clinging to him than Newt and Santorum ended up with on them.

In Florida, the Republican establishment served notice to the Tea Party and grassroots movement conservatives that it is playing for all the cookies. In 2010, conservatives won primary after primary by out-organizing their establishment opponents and creating a great grassroots movement behind ending business-as-usual in Washington.

In the battle for the Republican nomination for President, conservatives have the numbers on their side, and at a time when half of Americans fear big government (and more than half fear an Obama second term), conservatives have the issues on their side. However, to defeat the establishment and win the Republican presidential nomination, a conservative candidate must emerge who will wake-up the conservative grassroots and match the fierce desperation of the Romney campaign and an establishment that is fighting for its life.

Update

G.O.P.rules state that if Florida moves it's primary to before April 1st the delegates get awarded proportionately.Romney blew a wad of cash to get less than 50 delegates if I am correct. We all must follow the rules. There has also been vote fraud allegations in every State that had a primary so far.Florida is the national leader in that sport,so I would expect that kind of behaviour here, but as for the other States, shame, shame.

FOOLING YOURSELVES AGAIN....AND....AGAIN

Larry McDonald told YOU the way it is....

YOU are SUCKERS. WE are ALL SUCKERS.

THESE BASTARDS MAKE AL CAPONE AND DUTCH SCHULTZ LOOK LIKE A COUPLE OF CATHOLIC CHOIR BOYS.

Mitt Romney is our guy?

Mitt Romney won because he has more money? Ya think?! He has the mormon cult, i mean "church" backing him. He's no different than Obama. Bought and paid for.

poor, sweet Newt

Ok, so Romney placed a lot more ads, and almost all of his ads were negative. Why does this piece not mention the percentage of Gingrich's ads that were negative? Was Newt the poor, passive recipient of all of that sludge?

Not only does this piece leave out that detail, but it fails to mention the robocalls Newt placed which made it sound like Romney was trying to shove ham & cheese sandwiches down the throats of Jewish senior citizens when in fact, Romney wanted to save taxpayers $600k by outsourcing the kosher cooking. Either way, religious liberty would have been protected.

Any pretense of moral high ground between the two of them is absurd. A pox on both your houses!

Lenthy Tome

I could have shortened up this article to,Mitt won Florida because he has more MONEY!The other two were fools to even try.Poor people do not normally come out to vote until the general election in Florida for a good reason,it is rigged to show the rich people are in charge and influencing hard.

What Choice

People are btying uinto this phony battle between these NEOCONS and forgetting the condition that our country is in and what got it here. These people in Florida are the same people who bought into the New Deal and started us down the entitlement slide to Socialism. You say the words Social Security and their brains immediately dsconnect from their ears. In the meantime, the people who own the corporations that runthis country chuckle as we get our dander up over these two who are actually the same and the establishment will take either one of them. There is no difference between Mitt and Newt and the corporate owned MSM is not giving us a choice that would make a difference. People are arguing over whether the Dems or Reps ran up a $14c Trillion debt when it was the government that did it and has plans to run it higher just like they ar earguing over Mitt and Newt when it makes no difference.

Apologist?

I'm not an apologist for Romney ... he's not perfect.  However, Gingrich has proven himself to be rather nasty and seems quite consumed with the nominating process ... which he is losing and will lose.  If people really think Romey is detestable, vote for Obama ... and suffer the consequences.  Romney is hardly my choice for President ... I despise Obama.  Santorum and Gingrich are hardly "conservatives" or defenders of the Constitution ... both are worn out losers.  Most politicians are corrupt, conniving, evil and self-serving ... it's a matter of choosing the plumpest turd in the toilet bowl.  Vote, flush and get on with life.
