Richard Viguerie: Congratulations, President Obama, you’ve united the entire conservative movement

MANASSAS, VA -- The following is a statement by Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, regarding President Obama’s nomination of Appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“The nomination of Sonia Sotomayor unites all wings of the conservative movement--economic, foreign policy, social, traditional, neocon, and libertarian--in a way we haven’t seen since the early Clinton years.

“Judge Sotomayor frightens all conservatives.  As the debate over her nomination heats up, conservatives will provide the primary opposition to Sotomayor and will quickly launch a massive educational campaign using direct mail, the Internet, talk radio, cable TV, You Tube, and other forms of new and alternative media.

“It was sad to read that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s comment on the Sotomayor nomination reflected the typical reaction Americans have come to expect from Republican politicians when he said that Republicans will reserve judgment on Sotomayor.

“No wonder conservatives now look to talk show hosts and other unelected conservatives for leadership, rather then wet-finger Republican politicians who always seeming to be waiting to see the direction of the political winds.

“It remains to be seen how active and effective Republican politicians will be on this historic fight, but conservatives are on the field, engaged, and ready to battle President Obama and all U.S. Senators who support Sotomayor.”

NOTE TO EDITORS: Richard A. Viguerie pioneered political direct mail and has been called “one of the creators of the modern conservative movement” (The Nation magazine) and one of the “conservatives of the century” (The Washington Times).

I had not heard Steele's remarks regarding this. I can't say I was surprised though, Steele is a lost cause - he doesn't have a firm belief system, he is wishy-washy, and that is the problem with republicans and their party. I knew Steele was a loser when he sent me a survey asking me what the party should stand for - I mean if he doesn't know I sure as hell don't have time to tell him. I am a conservative and like this article says I am keeping tabs on Republicans in Washington who are appeasers and losers like Steele. They will all hear from me each and every time they appease and go against conservative values.

Certain likely Republican candidates continue to espouse a wide tent party. We badly need a leader with the bed rock conservative principles of a Mark Levin or Daniel Hannan of Great Britain. The latter spoke as follows: Daniel Hannan, who represents South East England in the European Parliament, stood up in that chamber and forcefully addressed Prime Minister Gordon Brown. "Prime Minister," MEP Hannan said, "I see you've already mastered the essential craft of the European politician, namely the ability to say one thing in this chamber and a very different thing to your home electorate. You've spoken here about free trade, and amen to that. Who would have guessed, listening to you just now, that you were the author of the phrase 'British jobs for British workers' and that you have subsidized, where you have not nationalized outright, swathes of our economy, including the car industry and many of the banks? Perhaps you would have more moral authority in this house if your actions matched your words. Perhaps you would have more legitimacy in the councils of the world if the United Kingdom were not going into this recession in the worst condition of any G-20 country. "The truth, Prime Minister, is that you have run out of our money. The country as a whole is now in negative equity. Every British child is born owing around 20,000 pounds. Servicing the interest on that debt is going to cost more than educating the child. Now, once again today you try to spread the blame around; you spoke about an international recession, international crisis. Well, it is true that we are all sailing together into the squalls. But not every vessel in the convoy is in the same dilapidated condition. Other ships used the good years to caulk their hulls and clear their rigging -- in other words, to pay off debt. But you used the good years to raise borrowing yet further. As a consequence, under your captaincy, our hull is pressed deep into the waterline under the accumulated weight of your debt. We are now running a deficit that touches 10 percent of GDP, an almost unbelievable figure -- more than Pakistan, more than Hungary, countries where the IMF have already been called in. Now, it's not that you're not apologizing; like everyone else, I have long accepted that you're pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility for these things. It's that you're carrying on, willfully worsening our situation, wantonly spending what little we have left. … In the last 12 months, 100,000 private-sector jobs have been lost, and yet you created 30,000 public-sector jobs. "Prime Minister, you cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt. And when you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we're 'well-placed to weather the storm,' I have to tell you (that) you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line. You know and we know -- and you know that we know -- that it's nonsense!"

Rich, my question is: Where in hell were the Conservatives the past 7 1/2 years when I so vigorously supported them. They were a huge dissapointment, why am I to believe they have reformed themselves? ATP.

I believe in conservative values and have all my life.. I'm a Glenn Beck fan.. "We have them surrounded" It doesn't take an idiot to know that... In a short period of time we are ,,I should say Obama is going to own GM... Do you know where things hurt the most,"the wallet" .. I've been a GM kinda guy ever scine I've been able to drive.. "DON'T BUY GM PRODUCTS ANYMORE" Remeber you are FOUR people away from knowing everyone in the world.. That is a phrase from MLM world.. And its ture... If Obama and his cronies won't let it fail we can.. this is a good thing.. So help me spread the news.. No Government that has ever own a business has ever succeeded. This will turn out just like that car in Russia.. You would not believe how much money that that Government has put in that Auto industry.. And it is still a bad car.. So Obama is going to be telling them what kinda car they can build and that you can drive.... Lowell A.

Conservatives. We must take every measure to ensure Sotomayo is not confirmed to the SCOTUS. Write your senator. Write your Congressman. She is unqualified. She was given every position she ever received. She is racist. She hates white people. She must be stopped. Tell everyone you know to spread the word. La Raza = The Racists. More so than Hitler and Stalin. Latinos and Mulados are going to run America and us white people will have nothing. We need a white president like Mitt Romney. Let's work hard to repeal Obama and have Mitt put in instead. We can do it. Write your Seanator and write your congressman. Newt will lead us. Do something today. The fate of white people in the US hangs in the balance.

It has now been two days since you posted this, and the "united conservative movement" you promised us has utterly collapsed. What are we left with? A bunch of poseurs wailing about two things: an out-of-context quote from 8 years ago that "proves" she makes rulings based on emotion instead of the law; a case brought by a fire fighter in which she made her ruling based on the law rather than emotion. Could your "united conservative movement" have possibly been any more of a disappointing betrayal? Where are the researchers pouring over her nearly-400 judicial decisions? Where is the actual proof that she ignores the rule of law? Where is the actual proof that she is racist? Why is our time being wasted by jokers like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich who are screaming about nonsense instead of researching the facts? If this is the "united conservative movement" you've promised to save the day, I weep for the future.
Dave
"Agnes", what were you smoking when you wrote the above--"...out-of-context quote...," "...a case brought by a fire fighter in which she made her ruling based on the law rather than emotion..?" You wonder where the proof is? For crying out-loud, the statement about "Latinas" being superior as judges to "white men" is an out-and-out racist statement in ANY context. Her poorly-written ruling permitting any firefighters except black ones from being promoted solely because of their race was outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Goverment-sponsored racial discrimination is supposed to be a long-gone, outlawed relic of America's racist past, not a judicial tactic lovingly embraced by 21st Century judiciary! Believe me, Sotomayor's "nearly 400 judicial decisions" WILL be closely-scrutinized. Of that, I can guarantee you! She has shown herself to be totally unfit to serve on ANY impartial court, much less the U.S. Supreme Court! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that an individual who is a member of a known racist organization such as "La Raza" is not going to be an objective judge who is only interested in accurately interpreting constitutional intent. "Agnes", if you knew "Joe White" was selected as a candidate for the Supreme Court even though he is a member of the Ku Klux Klan or the Aryan Nation and has made statements in the past about the ability of white judges to rule competently while non-white judges are incapable of objectivity in their rulings, would you support "Judge White?" Well, heck no you wouldn't! Smart judges would shun membership in "hate groups" like the plague, not flaunt their membership! I "weep for the future" too, but only because our Constitution, our society, and our nation are being trashed by a bunch of socialists and Marxists who are trying to re-make the greatest Republic in the history of mankind into a Marxist banana republic like Venezuela in 4 loooong years!
Agnes Lias
"Dave", did you bother to listen to the entire speech, or are you letting someone else do your thinking for you? She was clearly using it as an example of how judges need to *avoid* letting their personal biases influence their rulings, and is very similar to something Justice Alito said during his confirmation hearing back in 2005. Are you suggesting that, based on his confirmation hearing, Alito is biased against anyone who isn't an Italian immigrant? Be careful not to libel a true conservative like him. And have you read the Ricci ruling, or are you, again, letting someone else do your thinking for you? New Haven was clearly caught in a stranglehold because of that very civil rights law you mention, and were trying to obey it. Because they were doing their best to obey the law, the rule of law demanded the court decide in their favor. Seriously, get a clue. Conservatism is not well served by ignorant hysterics based on misrepresentations. And if the continuing hysterics are anything to go by, your guarantee of a close scrutiny is worth nothing. We need to grow up and act like adults, not like screaming kindergartners.
Tom
If there were more people like Agnes in the conservative movmement...people who take the time to consider the facts before opening their mouth and spouting whatever Rush said that day...perhaps the conservative movement would get out of the dark ages.
