Viguerie: She’s perfect
VP pick “gives McCain the opportunity to unite the GOP,
gives conservatives a stake in the election, and puts a real reformer on the ticket”

Minneapolis – The selection of Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running-mate unites the Republican Party and energizes its conservative base, Richard A. Viguerie said today.  “McCain has chosen to balance his ticket with a principled conservative.

“Governor Palin’s life story is one of sticking to principle.  She is living proof that a person can take on the corrupt political establishment – including corrupt leaders in her own party – and achieve great things.”

Viguerie added: “There’s an old expression in politics: Go along to get along.  Not this time.  The selection of Sarah Palin is one big kick-in-the-pants to the corrupt establishment in both parties.

“Congratulations to John McCain for hearing and responding to conservatives.  Conservatives, the base of the party, have been listless.  But, now, nearly all will work enthusiastically for the McCain-Palin ticket.  In fact, this is the most enthusiastic conservatives have been since the era for Ronald Reagan.”

He added: “This is a grand-slam home run.  Conservatives’ feet haven’t touched the ground since this announcement.”

She should have thrown her hat in the ring for president. McCain is a DEMOCRAT! So now the coice is between a Communist and a Socialist? Stick a fork in us people, WERE DONE!

Long way to go until November 4, but I think Sen. McCain made a great choice. We may have heard the GOP Nominee for 2012 (I think McCain will serve only one term and step down).

I'm sure John McCain made the perfect choise with Sarah Palin. A dynamic team with chemistry who can win the battle on november 4th.

So where does she stand on illegal immigration, amnesty (aside from party platform), double fence, etc.?
Mike
Gov. Paylin brings very little political capital to Mcain,no swing state favoritism, or electoral college votes - none of the usual dowery. So why the choice? I think Mcain is taking a huge political risk to send a strong message to the conservative base ... and I'm very thankful for his courage.

Palin can hit Obama on the Infanticide issue like no other. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/04/01/AR2008040102197.html But Obama's record on abortion is extreme. He opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called "too close to infanticide." Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion.

Once again the RNC oligarchy has relegated the best person(Palin) to the No.2 spot. She should be No.1. and McCain No.2 Why not srart a Convention campaign(revolt?) to get Palin nominated for Pres and McCain as Veep. It can be done. If not we get what we deserve BO Plenty.

John McCain and no matter who he picked for VP is still a career professional politician who promotes the New World Order agenda of the Council On Foreign Relations that has screwed up our country and government for decades. Open borders, amnesty McCain won't change anything, it will be business as usual in D.C. if he is elected. I won't even get started on the Dems, not enough time or space to rip them other than to say there isn't a dimes difference between where either major party will take the country. God help us. I'm voting for neither of the two evils. I'm voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
Mike
Richard, I think that you're getting way too excited about a vice-presidential candidate who, although she seems very attractive from a political point of view, will have no real power if she is elected. Voting for a ticket because of the vice-presidential candidate is not a very smart idea, especially when the person who will hold the power does not conform to your views. You, of all people, should know that.

If this woman had the principles you say she has, she would never have accepted McCain's offer. Ron Paul, a true conservative, offered the only chance the country has and was ostracized by the GOP. I will vote third party or not at all. The Rep./ Dem. dichotomy is a farce--they are but two wings of the same party. WGWTZA

McCain's selection of Palin was a great choice. It has made me reconsider my commitment to vote as an independent. I will strongly consider voting for McCain if he pledges to serve only one term. This is the key for me. If he takes the pledge, he has my vote!

Richard, she has NO discernible foreign policy experience -- does she even have a passport? Does she have any post-grad education or experience in economics? -- how does someone with her limited perspectives get us out of the Bush-debt-downward-spiral of reduced employment, reduced wealth and reduced value of the dollar? Social Conservative values are great but we are in one of the worst fiscal crises ever and she brings nothing except perhaps a feel-good example to women and men alike. How will she stop the debacle in Iraq and keep us from engaging in more war elsewhere -- against McCain? Our last real conservative statesman was Eisenhower. This ticket needs change, now!

I think this makes McCain look more like an "old coot." Choosing someone who he has only met a couple of times is totally irresponsible. It appears he needs to have someone just like him - who will not stand up to him and he know he can control her.......It is sickening that he cheated on his first wife and goes for the beauty queens at the expense of doing what was right for her and what IS right for our country now. He'd rather win the election than provide the country with a totally competent team at the top. This is reckless politics and perfect as in "The Perfect Storm!" She's a Dan Quayle lightweight look alike.
Bill
I agree with Mark. The VP candidate has two Constitutional Jobs. To replace the President if he leaves office before his term is up. Preside over the Senate where his/her only power is to break a tie vote, which happens almost never. The VP has very little effect on the programs the president plans to carry out because he has advisors who help set most of his policies. So the question is with Palin as the VP Candidate how does McCain continue to hammer Obama about lack of experience? Palin is in the same boat as Obama.I am very conservative and this choice does nothing to change my mind about Mr. McCain.
Bob
Ok, so I guess no one at all knows where Palin stands on illegal immigration (again aside from party platform). Do you Richard? I guess we true issues voters (until Palin decides to say) still support Chuck Baldwin? After all, what good is the rest of it all if there is no more country/USA?
Bob
Well, I guess VDARE knows something per this column below. And it seems many may not like the information to come out about her illegal immigration stance. Per VDARE, 30 August 2008 "For VP nominee Palin: An Alaskan Immigration question" [Patrick Cleburne]. Oh well. Go Chuck.
Doug
Perfect? With ZERO foreign policy experience? You've got to be kidding me! McCain is the laughing stock of the rest of the world with this choice. He dies in office (if elected) and you've got a soccer mom dealing with China over the Taiwan situation. You've got a mayor of 8,000 people and a 2 year governor of 670,000 people advising the 4 star generals on what to do in Iraq and 130 other nations our armed forces are operating in. Managing Alaska is NOT the same as managing 18 million in New York (Giuliani). I'm not a lib, but that has to be the dumbest choice I've ever seen for a V.P.

What about the value of family when you have a special needs newborn...? Doesn't this child need a mother more than normal during his first few years of life? With 4 other children, I think she should have declined the offer until her baby is a little older. I question her judgment and intelligence if she thinks she is the most qualified person to accept this job-- why is McCain even asking her? After all, there are 300 Million other Americans out there. Who is she putting first? Not her newborn and not America. And maybe not even McCain. And what does it say about McCain to put this kind of pressure on her and impose this choice on America? He's done a disservice to all of us.

Mr. Viguere, you are spot on with your assessment of Mrs. Palin. She may not have served as POTUS before (which is what most of the detractors seem to object to), but she has demonstrated what none of the other candidates, including McCain, have -- principles and determination over appearance and expediency. I especially like the comment that Eisenhower was the only real conservative we've ever had. Would that be the same President Eisenhower who crucified Senator Joe McCarthy for saying there were Communist spies in the top levels of the Federal Government? Actually, we used to call him "I-can-give-you-a-definite-maybe-on-that" Ike. I have to agree that Sarah Palin is not perfect, but she has demonstrated the qualities that the other possibles haven't that are more important than experience in what is always a theoretical activity at best. Today was not a good "labor day" for Governor Palin -- after all the revelations, the party should look again at Mike Huckabee for Pres and Ron Paul for Veep. Mike has the conservative governor experience; Ron has the true conservative values and commitment -- plus he can really deliver, including all these babies. Still time to change the ticket -- both top and bottom!

I am a content conservative for the moment. I believe that McCains choice was the right one for all of America. We need balance she can bring that to the table, remove the corrupt government and replace it with Conservatives that value life and principle while protecting our constitution and freedom.
