Richard Viguerie: Selection of Gwen Ifill again shows that GOP is “the stupid party”
Written by Richard Viguerie on October 01, 2008, 06:37 PM
By agreeing to the selection of Gwen Ifill to moderate the vice presidential debate, despite her obvious conflict of interest regarding the presidential election, Republicans have shown why they are called “the stupid party,” Richard A. Viguerie, the Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, said.

“How could the negotiators have signed off on a liberal moderator who has a book coming out on Inauguration Day heralding the ‘Age of Obama’?” Viguerie asked.

Ifill’s book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, is due to be published January 20, 2009, according to the book’s page at Amazon.com.  “Needless to say, the success of the book depends to a great extent on the outcome of the presidential election,” Viguerie noted.  “As Greta van Susteren, a lawyer, pointed out:  ‘In law, this would create a mistrial’.”

“Imagine if one of the officials at Super Bowl earlier this year had had a book coming out on Super Bowl Sunday entitled Dynasty: The Age of the New England Patriots.  Can you imagine the New York Giants agreeing to that?  But then, the New York Giants are a lot smarter than Republicans.”

Ifill’s book was mentioned by name in a July 21 Associated Press article by Kinney Littlefield.  The roster of debate moderators was revealed August 5.

“Democrats don’t agree to debates on the Fox News Channel, where they might get tough questions,” Viguerie pointed out.  “They agree to debates only when they get the home field advantage – only when the questioners are people who see liberalism as objective reality and who consider the opinions of conservative, mainstream Americans to be backward and ill-informed.  And they get away with it because the Republicans don’t have the fortitude to do something about it.”

Do you realize that Barack Obama HAS appeared on Fox News, in an interview with Bill O'Reilly and fielded VERY difficult questioning. By contrast, neither John McCain nor Sarah Palin have appeared on Keith Olbermann's show, which would be the equivalent move for them. Perhaps you should take your own advice and seek to be better informed.

They didn't vet Palin so why would anyone think the Republicans would do any homework on this moderator? I don't think it will be an issue. Ifill is no Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olbermann. I believe all this fuss doesn't show so much as stupidity as it does an attempt to set Ifill up as a scapegoat when Palin, yet again, shows she's not qualified nor knowledgeable enough to be our potential commander-in-chief.

Jesse. Are you serious using Olbermann's name in the same sentence as O'Reilly? All I hear is sarcastic humor from Keith Olbermann. At least on O'Reilly's program, you do get an education. But I wouldn't suggest any one go on The View either. What a bunch of dumb broads.

Ifill is a black literate female going in defense for another literate black male. She has no knowledge as to the Constitution and what it means. She is another product of public schools and/or liberal universities, as well as Chairman Mao Obama. These people are products of our society. We give up more to the masses and we will have less. This is how communism works. Help me now and I will worry about it later.

This is why I am refusing to donate to the RNC. They are as liberal as the DNC. They haven't got a clue. It's like all of a sudden I realized they are almost one in the same. If they aren't, why does GW always side with Kennedy, Feinstein, Pelosi, and Reid? Caving in to the liberals has ruined the GOP. With Ifill moderating the debate, it's the Fox running the hen House. This whole thing is sure looking FISHY. Sarah Palin is capable of putting them in their place, let's hope she gets the opportunity.

Because the GOP lost sight of their values after Reagan, they have been going steadily downhill. Where's the vetoes?! Where's the fiscal accountability??!! Where's the integrity??!! Unfortunately, we may all get what we deserve on Nov 4th. It'll be a tough price to pay for sleeping with the enemy throughout the Bush years.

You people are gradually getting to the point. But remember which President destroyed the "fairness doctrine". The media were talked into dropping the equal time policy under the Reagan administration and the conservative component of our society have been constructing an adequate response to the loss of the old criteria. Fox news is the way the two-party system works for the Republicans. On the liberal side if we lose PBS the whole shooting match will become a shouting match. Let's watch Ms. Ifill to see if she remains "professional". I predict she will. But you have raised the larger issue.

Gwen Ifill will be another reason for McCain and his supporters to excuse Palin if she doesn't do well.

If Ms.Ifill was the professional all the liberals say see is, she would recused herself as moderator. She is of course an Obama supporter and has no business moderating this debate. The Republicans, if they had any backbones would pull Palin from the debate until an acceptable moderator is assigned. Can you see the Democrats agreeing on Rush Limbaugh as the moderator. Right!!!

Now we will get to see the prejudices exposed by a black woman against a white woman.

Bob's comment is right on target. How could such a moderator accept this type of invitation and have taken a public stand for a participant. Any true professional would work to prevent the appearance of bias. She must recuse herself if she has any class and respect for the process.

I think most people underestimate Sarah Palin. She is intelligent, courageous, and can debate. She had to when she ran for governor of Alaska. I hope that she can point out and ask Biden why he didn't vote for the Alaska pipeline. He was one of 5 stupid senators who did not. This situation just might work in her favor. She is a fighter.

It is far from a given that writing a book entitled "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama" means that Ifill is a biased or unprofessional moderator. The very fact that Obama is a serious candidate for the presidency (in fact, has been and is currently leading Mccain in the polls) indicates a large change in the ability of the nation to look past race in politics. Which is likely what Ifill's book is about, as opposed to being a mindless ideological booster for the Obama campaign. Get over the paranoia about Ifills being "biased". It is highly unlikely that any moderator would do that in a vice presidential debate on mainstream media. It happens every day on AM talk radio, but it's not gonna happen on NBC et al.media.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and seek to be better informed. Informed? Don't all you Lefties have your panties in a wad about Palin's performance on Katie Couric's CBS (all the news we that's we make up) Network? And why wouldn't the GOP ask Rush to be a debate moderator? That would be a brilliant strategic move. 20 million people listen to him every week . . . why can't he moderate a debate? Objectivity obviously isn't a criteria for selection.

I wonder how the Dems are going to feel when their liberal black momentum candidate destroys this country, ensuring that the "Age of Obama" is when the U.S. went straight into the toilet? There is nothing moderate about Obama, he isn't even close to a Colin Powell. He will destroy the Democrat Party and the sad part is that I don't think the United States would ever elect another black person to the presidency.
