Ted Cruz is the Only Alternative to Donald Trump

The question now before Republican voters, and especially those inclined to support the wishes of the Party elite in DC, is not Trump vs #NeverTrump, it is who can best unite all of the elements of the winning Republican coalition. And as CHQ Chairman Richard Viguerie has pointed out on numerous occasions, that candidate is Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz did a good job in the debate last night, but from the perspective of my 50+ years in conservative politics at the national level, it is clear that only two things can stop Donald Trump now:  Trump himself or a united conservative movement.

The difference between Ronald Reagan’s toughness in advocating conservative principles and Trump’s politics of personal invective is that Reagan understood the key to building a winning conservative coalition was addition, not subtraction. Donald Trump clearly lacks Reagan's wisdom and maturity because, after Trump’s toxic behavior in South Carolina, it is going to take more than “The Art of the Deal” to rebuild the Reagan coalition if Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for president.
