The danger over the next 6 weeks is that Repub. strategists & donors will play it safe and fail to take advantage of other opportunities. The focus will be on the 7 swing Senate seats & on making sure R's hold KS & GA. But there are opportunities in MI (open seat) & in 1 or more of MN, VA, OR, NJ, & IL.

Oberweis Wins GOP Primary to Face Durbin

IL state Sen. Jim Oberweis (R) won his Senate primary and will face House Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in the fall. Oberweis, a wealthy dairy magnate, hardline conservative and perennial candidate, led businessman Doug Truax (R) by 55% to 45%.

TeaParty Seeking Primary Challenge for Boehner

The Tea Party Leadership Fund will announce an effort it plans to search for a candidate to primary Speaker John Boehner. The group is funding a $25,000 ad campaign against Boehner and a petition drive at PrimaryBoehner.com. Radio’s Rusty Humphries, a spokesman for the TPLF, is leading the effort.
