In Memoriam: William Martin Schulz

In today’s media environment, where Far Left editorial policy is dominant, it may be difficult to believe that, due in large measure to the influence of one man -- William Schulz -- Reader's Digest, the nation’s most widely read magazine, with a monthly U.S. readership exceeding 50 million, was strongly anti-communist and staunchly pro-American.

I urge all of my friends and CHQ readers to add Just Right by Lee Edwards to their Christmas list, not only is it a joy to read, but it is an essential chronicle of the rise of the modern conservative movement through the eyes of one of the few men who have been at the center of it all from 1958 to the present.

We don’t know if the late Chicago Cubs baseball great Ernie Banks was a Democrat or a Republican, conservative or liberal, but we do know that Bank’s infectious enthusiasm for the game of baseball and his perennially “in the cellar” Cubs has a lesson for conservatives in today’s political environment.
