border wall

In border fight, Democrats want 'technological wall' that won't keep anybody out

Byron York, Washington Examiner

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California says a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border would be "immoral." Instead, she favors something she calls a "technological wall." The problem is, a smart wall would not actually wall off intrusions. Indeed, the main feature of a smart wall — in past debates, it was often referred to as a virtual fence — is that it will not stop anyone from crossing the border into the United States. It can detect illegal crossers and alert authorities to their presence. But it does nothing to keep them from entering the country.

A Bold Plan for a Trump Victory

Conrad Black, American Greatness

Palsied and pompous and generally over-stuffed with undeserved deference though the constitutional American system is (and blustery and sometimes inelegant though the president sometimes is), this is the showdown the nation needs. Let the Democrats stop creeping around in the dark, feeding malicious falsehoods to the jackal media. Let the president address the illegal immigration issue squarely. Let those who would try to undo the electoral verdict of 2016 with spurious legal casuistry and media manipulation come out from the dark and try to make their case.

Saving The Earth At The Point Of A Bayonet

The only way the Green New Deal could be accomplished would be through the forced relocation of millions of workers and their families in a massive societal restructuring akin to the forced collectivization of Russian agriculture after the Soviet Revolution of 1917 or Chairman Mao’s Great Leap Forward economic restructuring of Communist China.

The Path to a ‘National Emergency’

Patrick J. Buchanan, The American Conservative

What should Trump do now? Act. He cannot lose this battle with Pelosi without demoralizing his people and imperiling his presidency. Since FDR, we have had presidential government. And when U.S. presidents have been decisive activists, history has rewarded their actions. Trump should declare a national emergency, shift funds out of the Pentagon, build his wall, open the government and charge Democrats with finding excuses not to secure our border because they have a demographic and ideological interest in changing the face of the nation. "America First!" is still a winning hand.

Terrorism Actually Does Kill Many Americans Via the Southern Border

Roger L. Simon, PJ Media

A principal -- likely the principal -- partner of the cartel gangsters in their work is, and has been for many years, Hezbollah. The fruits of that alliance plus cash infusions from Iran--and therefore, to a regrettable extent, us-- are how the world's biggest terror army finances many of its murderous activities.  They sell the deadly narcotics to our people and use the money to kill others. Death for death. If you want to destroy and/or exploit a culture, addict it.  If you want to undercut a civilization you consider anathema and make some money in the process, "turn it on." That's what Hezbollah is doing.

Mr. President, No Surrender On The Wall

Though we don’t want to see anyone out of work or missing a paycheck, why should anyone care more that a hundred or a thousand or ten thousand government employees are not getting paid - than for the survival of their country?

America’s Southern Border Isn’t Just a Crisis, It’s a Disgrace

Chris Buskirk, American Greatness

Some so-called conservatives defend the illegal immigration insanity in the name of a misunderstood devotion to markets or addiction to cheap, peasant labor. They seem to have forgotten that America is a country with an economy, not the other way around. And losing sight of that basic truth they’re destroying the basis of our shared liberty and prosperity. That is not just a national crisis, it’s a disgrace, and President Trump is right to insist that Congress act to protect the American people.

Nancy Pelosi’s immoral border stance

Katie Pavlich, The Hill

Democratic leadership and congressional members in the House and Senate say walls are immoral and they don’t work anyway. Of course, both of these things are untrue. The data, the stories and the ongoing crisis at the border prove it is important and the situation is dire. “I campaigned on Border Security, which you cannot have without a strong and powerful Wall. Our Southern Border has long been an ‘Open Wound,’ where drugs, criminals (including human traffickers) and illegals would pour into our Country,” President Trump tweeted. President Trump, rather than Speaker Pelosi, has the moral high ground.

Can Democrats Explain Why The Border Wall Is ‘Immoral?’

David Harsanyi, The Federalist

The notion that Democrats — who are ready to spend trillions on every newly concocted “right” — are hesitant to lay out $5. 7 billion is risible. If a wall were really ineffective, wouldn’t a trade for legalizing younger illegal residents be a feasible and legitimate compromise? It’s more likely that the wall is non-starter because 1: Democrats don’t want to sign off on a Trump agenda item — the political consequences would be too severe; and 2: Democrats’ leftward lurch has transformed any border security into “racist” position among the base of the party.

What V.P. Mike Pence Asked Conservatives To Do

Yesterday, CHQ Richard A. Viguerie and his team participated in a conference call with Vice President Pence about the Wall. It was a good call, but we think the Vice President underestimated what the President’s grassroots conservative-populist supporters would be willing to do to help get the Wall built and we have some additional action items to suggest.

Democrats keep proving how detached they are from reality

Michael Goodwin, New York Post

Never in modern times has there been such a disconnect between the opposition party and the realities of national life. The very talk of removing Trump, without evidence of an impeachable offense, is a stick in the eye to history and most Americans. To be clear, the disconnect is not the product of policy differences, though they exist too. This is instead a mass outbreak of Trump Derangement Syndrome that, for those infected, can be cured only by undoing the results of the 2016 election. And if by some lightning strike they succeed, then what? Impeach President Mike Pence, too?

Why Democrats oppose the wall

John Feehery, The Hill

Let’s say Mr. Trump, in a press conference in October of 2020, is able to point to a huge steel fence on the outskirts of Laredo, Texas, and say that he delivered on his No. 1 campaign promise and then announce that he has a secret agreement that Mexico will pay for it. Who cares if the Mexican government denies it? The Trump base will be pumped and the government shutdown will be long-forgotten. That’s the worse-case scenario for the Democrats: A Republican president who can point to a wall to prove he keeps his promises. And that’s why Nancy Pelosi won’t give Donald Trump his wall. It’s not about morality or cost. It’s all about the politics.

Last Night The President Asked For Our Help, Are You In?

Last night during his Oval Office address on border security President Trump made a simple request of every American: To every citizen: call Congress and tell them to finally – after all of these decades – secure our border. The toll-free Capitol Switchboard is (1-866-220-0044) call your Senators and Representative TODAY tell them #BuildTheDamnWallNow.

The Wall And The Shameful Silence Of GOP Leaders

Why shouldn’t the Democrats think they can win the fight over the Wall? For the past two years the GOP’s congressional leaders were shamefully silent whenever the subject of the Wall came up and stalled around avoiding any showdown with the Democrats that when won would have funded the Wall.

Trump Veers Off Message on the Border Wall

John Fund, National Review

Changing tactics would be the best way for Trump to end the stalemate that has shut down one-fourth of the government for more than two weeks. He should brand Congress as irresponsible on the issue of border security and say he’s been forced to direct the Defense Department to use some of its unallocated funds for border construction projects. Doing it that way, the president would probably score points on the political argument and ensure that, come the 2020 election, he will have actually built something along the border rather than just talking about it.

Mr. President, Here’s What You Must Tell The American People Tonight

The Left has made its opposition to the border wall clear. So, the President should use tonight's address to make Democrats own the effects of their policies and brand them as the Party of the murder, drug pushing, economic upheaval and chaos that their policies have brought to our country. Only by using the proven technique of a primetime TV address pioneered by President Ronald Reagan can President Trump make those dangers known to the American people.

Senator Lindsey Graham Makes A Great Point

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday, “We’ll have offers on the table when we find somebody that’s not crazy to deal with…” judging by what the Democrats’ leaders are saying it looks like it is going to be a long shutdown, if it can’t end until someone who is not crazy represents them at the negotiating table.

Democrats Keep Their Promises

Much as we dislike the substance of the Democrats’ promises, as Republican Rep. Tom Reed’s flirtation with voting for the Democratic rules package demonstrates, it is hard to argue with the appeal of politicians who actually do what they say they will do, even if what they promise is a disaster waiting to happen.

House Republicans First Mistake – Playing On The Democrats’ Field

The House Republicans first day in the minority got off to an inauspicious start via Rep. Liz Cheney’s nomination of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House. Our recommendation is that Rep. Liz Cheney fire whoever wrote the McCarthy nomination speech for her because there was certainly nothing in what she said yesterday that would drive any news cycle.

Obama Used Walls To Shut Out Veterans, Opposes Walls To Stop Illegal Aliens

Jake Hoffman, Townhall

President Trump, if he takes the control of the conversation, can win this political fight because the truth, and the American people, are on his side. In fact, border security is such a common sense policy that even Chuck Schumer aggressively made the case less than a decade ago, stating, “above all else, the American people want their government to be serious about protecting the public, enforcing the rule of law and creating a rational system of legal immigration that will proactively meet our needs rather than reactively responding to future waves of illegal immigration. People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally.”
