Time to explode the Andrew Cuomo myth

Editors, Washington Examiner

Cuomo has a degree of telegenic New York charm, but are we supposed to ignore that his state has made Italy look like a coronavirus success story? No other governor can claim to have done so badly. Wherever one looks, one finds no place where the government’s response to the virus has been less effective or more counterproductive than Cuomo’s. He is responsible for at least two grave errors in judgment that directly caused thousands of preventable deaths. It’s time for the media to ask what he is doing wrong when nearly everyone else in authority has done so much better. They should come to bury Cuomo, not praise him.

There’s No Proof Killing The Economy Saves Lives

The evidence is growing that lockdowns did not have the kind of life saving effect that their advocates, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci and Democrat Governor of Virginia Dr. Ralph Northam, claimed they would. We urge CHQ readers and friends to read Grading Our Governors: A Report Card on Reopening States' Economies and if your Governor has not earned an “A” or a “B” to call him or her to demand that the economy of your state be reopened.

Of Pandemics and the Partisan Divide

David Catron, The American Spectator

The Democrats don’t trust us to make the most mundane decisions about our own lives, including dangerous activities like driving across the state line to a BBQ joint or barber shop. Republicans assume that most of us can handle these nuanced calls. This is a far more important distinction than it probably seems at first glance. If one of the two major parties doesn’t trust you to choose a greasy spoon or get a haircut without supervision, is there any real chance they will be comfortable with your choices concerning where you live, work, worship, get health care, educate your children? Trust us to vote? Not a chance.

Coexistence with China or Cold War II?

Patrick J. Buchanan, Creators

Even Vladimir Putin has reason to be suspicious as Beijing looks at the barren but resource-rich lands of Siberia and the Russian Far East China once owned. China is thus a greater rival than the USSR of Stalin and Khrushchev and Brezhnev, but the U.S. is not today the nation of President Ronald Reagan, with its surging economy and ideological conviction. Three decades of post-Cold War foolish and failed democracy-crusading have left this generation not with the conviction and certitude of Cold War America, but with ashes in their mouths and no stomach to spend blood and treasure converting China to our way of life.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Is A Carpenter With Only One Tool

By Richard A Viguerie, CHQ Chairman
In his dire warnings, that not unexpectedly drew praise from Democrats who need unemployment to be at a high level to win this November's election.  Dr. Fauci reminds me of a carpenter with only one tool – which in his case will be a clamp on the economy. President Trump should reject Democrat calls to run the country on Dr. Fauci’s one problem – one tool approach.

GOP Must Stop Pelosi’s $3 Trillion Vote Fraud Power Grab

It’s hard to know where to start explaining just how bad Speaker Pelosi’s next gen bailout bill is – but we will start with the institutionalization of California-style vote fraud.  The toll-free Capitol Switchboard number (1-866-220-0044), we urge CHQ readers and friends to call their Senators and Representative tell them Pelosi’s $3 trillion vote stealing plan is a non-starter and that America needs to get back to work.

Trump, Biden, and the Coronavirus Coup

Matthew Boose, American Greatness

Consider the last several weeks a test run for the Biden regency, a preview of what America might look like if, and when, rule by the “managers” becomes a permanent, irreversible fact. Joe Biden, the first presidential candidate in history who, everyone knows, would not actually be running the country, would herald the completion of America’s decline. His candidacy spells the obvious: the ruling elite are finished with keeping up appearances. They feel entitled to power. A resounding victory for Biden would ratify that Americans approve of their expert overlords that they’d rather be ruled than rule themselves.

How Does COVID-19 Fit In China’s Bio-Weapons Program?

The focus of our preliminary assessment of the Chinese actions was on the economic warfare domain, but that is only one of the seven domains of warfare recognized in Chinese military thinking. But a must-read article by our friend Clare M. Lopez raises a new and even more frightening possibility: The Chinese Communist Party intends to militarily defeat, occupy, and colonize the U.S. and biological weapons figure prominently in their strategy.

Evidence is Building that the Chinese Developed COVID-19 to use as an Economic Weapon Against the United States

If you are a loyal Chinese Communist, you see President Trumps actions, as an Act of War. This American President is looking to stop China’s accent as the world’s leading economic and military power. That cannot stand.  As the virus spread, the Chinese realized that COVID-19 would be an effective economic weapon. Which may be why they cancelled domestic flights in and out of Wuhan, but allowed international flights to continue, hoping the virus would spread to the United States.

Conservative Leaders To GOP: No State and Local Government Bailouts in COVID-19 Relief Legislation

As Congress contemplates a future relief package, the conservative leaders of the Conservative Action Project, led by Chairman Alfred S. Regnery, urge Congress to reject state and local government cash bailouts in favor of policies which give states the flexibility to address the COVID-19 crisis according to the needs of their state – including providing relief from onerous regulations, unfunded federal mandates, and policies which stifle economic growth.

Dumb And Corrupt Cops Risk Losing Our Support

Kurt Schlichter, Townhall

We support the police; the police need to police their own to ensure they support us. In an era where Democrats increasingly attempt to leverage the power of government against their political enemies, this kind of passive acquiescence to manifest injustices is a real threat to the viability of this nation as a free country. Can anyone really calculate the damage the FBI and DoJ’s schemes and crimes have done to their reputations? And now local law enforcement is trashing its own rep with stupid antics designed to bully normal citizens. What happens if the politicians tell them to shoot anyone who resists?

COVID-19 is no good reason to cancel rents or mortgages

Editors, Washington Examiner

It is astonishing that some members of Congress, in their ignorance to advocate compounding the economic disaster brought on by the global pandemic. It is one thing for those who have fallen on hard times to go to their banks and request forbearance — many homeowners are now doing this, and banks and mortgage servicers have every incentive to allow it — but it is quite another simply to stop payments, which would produce a full-blown systemic crisis. It would threaten the stability of banks and of the secondary mortgage market and make it impossible for anyone but the super-rich to buy homes, maybe for years to come.

Your Right To A Secure Secret Ballot Is In Jeopardy

Absentee ballots are “the tool of choice” of vote thieves and those who want to compromise the election process. The goal of Democrats is to push elections into what we call “the margin of chaos” where disputed ballots, erroneous or false counts and outright fraud cloud the Election Day results and creates the opportunity to determine the winner through litigation, not the tallying of legally cast votes.

Coronavirus Deaths: The Most Predictive Factor

David Catron, The American Spectator

In our 26 red states, the average coronavirus death rate per million is about 82. In the 24 blue states, plus the District of Columbia, it’s about 235. On average, then, you are about 2.9 times more likely to die of COVID-19 if you live a blue state than if you live in a red state. But averages mean little in the real world. If you live in New York, your chance of dying of coronavirus is 11 times higher than if you live in Georgia. The numbers change depending on the relative states, of course, but the most predictive factor is whether you prefer blue or red. The former preference appears to be bad for your health.

How Long Can Biden Stay In His Basement?

Patrick J. Buchanan, The American Conservative

Tara Reade is not a matter any presidential candidate wants to discuss while conducting his campaign. But this is only the beginning of Biden’s problems — and of his party’s problems with Biden. The worry is that he is suffering from mental decline and could be destroyed by Trump in a presidential debate. Biden forgets, mumbles, misspeaks, loses his train of thought and appears, at times, confused. Biden has also signaled, by his references to being a “bridge” president, that he will be serving only the single term that would end in 2025 with him having celebrated his 82nd birthday. This makes his vice presidential choice crucial.

The War between Experience and Credentials

Victor Davis Hanson, National Review

The ER doctors, the nurses, and the public in general all eagerly welcomed the research of the experts. But the reverse — in which experts would listen to those with firsthand experience — was not true. The asymmetrical result is that we all have paid a terrible price in misjudging the perfidy of China; the rot within the WHO; the origins, transmission, infectiousness, and lethality of the virus; and the most effective, cost-to-benefit response to the epidemic in terms of saving lives lost to the infection versus the likely even more lives lost through the response. Our experts learned nothing and forgot nothing.

National Coronavirus Recovery Commission Announces Five-Phase Plan To Reopen America

These Heritage Foundation recommendations will help to restart economic activity while suppressing the novel coronavirus to give the American people the confidence to begin returning to normal. The plan is formulated to save both our lives and our livelihoods. It is not about choosing between protecting lives or the economy, but about achieving the prudent balance needed to protect both. We urge CHQ readers to download the report, read it and share it with the leaders of your community.

Don't Expect Losers of Shutdown to Sit Idly by Forever

Jay Cost, RealClearPolitics

This quarantine has been an incredibly destructive policy, and the harms have not been distributed evenly across the U.S. Some people are suffering much, much more than others. It is a testament to the American spirit that so many have endured this hardship for so long -- a tribute to our people’s commitment to the good of all. But these protests are an indication that this kind of fellow-feeling only goes so far. Absent a draconian police state or a massive system of bribery and patronage, respect for the law is ultimately premised on the belief that the law is good. If enough people conclude that these laws are ruining them, look out.

Sick and Elderly Federal Prisoners Are Not Being Released Despite Coronavirus Danger

Federal wardens have been instructed and authorized to release at-risk non-violent federal prisoners by the Attorney General, but Barr’s instructions have by and large fallen on deaf ears. The chief purpose of Barr’s March directive was to urge release aging and medically at-risk inmates. However, Ft. Worth, which was once a medical facility but lost its medical license, is now a train wreck of sick and dying inmates laid low with the virus.

Blue States Become Laboratories of Despotism

David Catron, The American Spectator

It’s obvious why Democratic governors refuse to lift their job-killing lockdowns, despite clear indications that their ostensible goal of “flattening the curve” has been achieved. The actual point of the exercise has little or nothing to do with public health. They hope they can delay reopening their states long enough to drive the economy into a depression for which the voters will punish President Trump and the Republicans. They don’t care how many lives they ruin. Nor do they give a damn if their actions are constitutional. They assume the voters are too stupid to see the despotic impulses that lie beneath their affected empathy.
