The Right Way to Talk About Rights

Daniel Oliver, First Things

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day commemorates the day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Recently, the Trump administration has been giving some thought to that declaration. In July, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo created the Commission on Unalienable Rights in the Department of State—and not a moment too soon. Many are confused about human rights today. There has been an explosion in the number of “rights” claims worldwide. Secretary Pompeo’s commission should provide a better guide than the U.N.'s—a guide steeped in the American tradition, which is the world’s best hope.

Dr. Beverly LaHaye and Penny Nance Celebrate 40 Years of Success for Concerned Women for America

Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, celebrated its 40th anniversary and the retirement of founder Dr. Beverly LaHaye at a Gala headlined by Vice President Mike Pence. "With the retirement of Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, who has served God faithfully, we’re marking the passing of the baton on the firm foundation from which she built this organization,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President.

Bolton Fired For Being Right About The Taliban

Over the next few days much will be written about West Wing power struggles, but in the end, being right about Taliban perfidy and being out of sync with President Trump’s laudable, but impractical goal of making peace with them, is undoubtedly what got John Bolton fired.

Who Speaks for Donald Trump?

Patrick J. Buchanan, The American Conservative

Did not candidate Trump say he would be ending wars and bringing troops home, not plunging into new conflicts in the Mideast, Asia, Europe, the Western Hemisphere and "the Indo-Pacific"? One wonders: Do the hawks in his inner councils speak for Trump? For they surely do not speak for a nation whose weariness with wars put him into the White House. On the first day of Trump's visit to London, Pompeo, who last year issued his 12 demands on Iran, was quoted as saying the U.S. is now prepared to negotiate with Tehran with "no preconditions." For now, Trump's hawks appeared contained. But for how long?

Why Is This Enemy Even Allowed To Speak Here?

If President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo are serious about stopping the Iranian Islamist threat to the West, their first order of business should be to stop giving the Iranians American forums from which they can threaten Israel and undermine our policies.

Trump Administration Should Balance Iran and Saudi Arabia

Candidate Trump appeared to understand Saudi Arabia. President Trump acts like other submissive royal retainers George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Instead of campaigning to hand the Middle East over to the Saudi royals, the Trump administration should stand for America’s interests.

Behind The Scenes Shifts In American Foreign Policy Led To Summit Success

President Trump said before the meeting, “It’s a process” and so far, the results of the Trump – Kim Summit have been encouraging enough to call the summit a success, however, it remains to be seen if the behind the scenes changes in U.S. policy outlined here will ultimately result in the desired goal of a nuclear-free North Korea.

Trump Brings Home Christians Held By North Korea

Tony Kim,  Kim Hak-song and Kim Dong-chul were engaged in Christian missionary work in North Korea. Each of the former detainees was targeted because of his Christian faith and as a faithful Christian each was seen as an existential threat to the North Korean regime.

Conservative Senators Must Oppose Gina Haspel For CIA Director

In her testimony yesterday, Gina Haspel gave conservatives a rare insight into how operatives of the Deep State think and work – and it should scare everyone who saw it or has read about it. What’s more, Haspel gave conservatives concerned about Russia, China and the war Islam has declared on the West absolutely no reason to vote for her.

Cleaning House Is Not Enough

Cleaning house of the Obama – McMaster – Tillerson holdovers at State and the NSC isn’t enough. President Trump's national security team needs, not just a house cleaning, but a complete staff renewal that will reinvigorate it with seasoned professionals who share President Trump’s national security goals and will implement them, instead of undermining them.

Senator Rand Paul Chooses Policy Over Politics On Pompeo Vote

The easy political move for Senator Paul would have been to vote “NO” on Mike Pompeo and claim it was a vote based on principle, the tougher and better move for the country, and Senator Paul’s policy goals, was to get the commitments on policy and vote “YES.”

Rand Paul Gives Pompeo Needed Vote After Getting Non-Interventionist Promises

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) switched his "no" vote to support for CIA Director Mike Pompeo as the next secretary of State, giving President Trump's pick just enough backers to eke out confirmation. “President Trump believes that Iraq was a mistake, that regime change has destabilized the region, and that we must end our involvement with Afghanistan," the libertarian GOP senator added. “Having received assurances from President Trump and Director Pompeo that he agrees with the president on these important issues, I have decided to support his nomination to be our next secretary of State.”

The Perversion of America

Robert Stacy McCain, The American Spectator

America has become perverted, in the original 14th-century sense of the word, having turned away from the doctrines on which the nation was founded. We have worshipped other gods — “diversity” and “inclusion” chief among them — and the Supreme Court itself has “endorsed… an alternative lifestyle.” As Justice Scalia warned 15 years ago, there are “far-reaching implications” of our nation’s turning away from its founding principles and it remains to be seen how long America will survive the resulting “massive disruption” of its social order.

John Bolton Appointment Divides Conservatives

Criticisms of the appointment of John Bolton as National Security Advisor have been strongly rebutted by a long list of national defense conservatives who reject the idea that everyone who wants to rebuild the military Obama intentionally hollowed out should automatically be dismissed as a “neocon.”

Viguerie Joins 92 Conservative Leaders Backing Pompeo For Secretary Of State

Viguerie and 92 leaders of CAP have issued a statement backing Mike Pompeo for Secretary for State saying, "Pompeo’s vast experience across multiple levels of government has demonstrated his commitment to protecting America’s interests, and make him uniquely qualified to lead the State Department through complex and challenging times."

Rand Paul Stands Against Warmongers And Torturers

Principled liberty-minded Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has announced that he will oppose the nominations Mike Pompeo and Gina Haspel, Trump’s choice for Secretary of State and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
