Coronavirus: Statistical Stupidity

Robert Stacy McCain, The American Spectator

Why were the original IMHE projections so far off the mark? We don’t know. Perhaps the scientists underestimated the efficacy of the “mitigation” measures Trump announced. Or possibly the use of chloroquine. Oh, wait — we’re not allowed to mention where this disease came from, are we? One might hope that Chris Hayes and the other media fear-mongers would spend more time blaming the communist regime in Beijing and less time accusing our president of malicious indifference to American lives. But we should not think the media’s failures prove that they’re stupid. They’re smart people who know exactly what they’re doing. And they should be ashamed.

How Bad Has the Pandemic Been? How Bad Will It Be?

David Franke, Richard C.

Horrible as the pandemic is, it still has a long way to go before it is as lethal as the common flu. Of course, there’s a big difference in the way these death tolls are amassed.  Flu tends to strike more or less evenly across the nation, so our health facilities are not overwhelmed. In fact, because this happens regularly every year, we hardly notice it unless it claims someone close to us. The coronavirus pandemic, however, strikes rapidly in epicenters such as New York City and New Orleans. This leads to the hospitals, doctors and nurses, and first responders being overwhelmed in those epicenters—and that leads to the resulting panic.

Top 10 Predictions for 2019, A Year That Will Make 2018 Look Sane

Kurt Schlichter, Townhall

My general prediction is that 2019 will be even crazier than 2018! One prediction (of 10): Besides a ton of new lower court judges who will remake the federal bench, there will be a liberal SCOTUS justice leaving next year, and the left will get out their handmaid suits and go totally bonkers. Look for Trump to shrewdly pick a female Catholic (Guess who!), and look for the Democrats to be unable to control themselves and thereby alienate Catholics with ugly, bigoted attacks going into 2020. She’ll get confirmed.
