Fitton: Mueller's Russia Probe Out of Control, Should Be Shut Down

Our friend Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, was on Fox News over the Independence Day holiday blasting Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s conduct of the Russia investigation.

Fitton’s comments reflected our own questions about who is overseeing Mueller's day-to-day conduct, pointing to the 12 hires he has made for his legal team.

Tom FittonFitton joined "America's News HQ" to question what’s going on after Mueller's latest hire of Andrew Goldstein, a former prosecutor who worked under Obama’s US Attorney Preet Bharara in New York.

He also noted that several other lawyers hired by Mueller donated to Democrats and it seems that the team is "searching for a crime."

"I don't understand what this investigation is about," he said, adding that there are constitutional questions that must be answered.

Mueller is conducting the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and whether the Trump campaign was involved.

And Fitton isn’t alone in questioning what’s going on the Special Counsel’s office.

Attorney and Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said on "America's Newsroom" that Special Counsel Robert Mueller made a mistake with some of the hires for his legal team in the Russia investigation.

According to reports, Elizabeth Prelogar was also recently added to Mueller’s legal team. Prelogar, a lawyer in the Office of the Solicitor General, clerked for Supreme Court justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan.

She also reportedly donated $250 to the Clinton campaign last fall and made two donations of the same amount to the Obama campaign and Victory Fund in 2012.

Our friend, and Fox News regular Mercedes Schlapp called out the "problematic" hires two weeks ago after it emerged that Mueller had tapped at least three others who had given to Democrats.

Schlapp noted on "Outnumbered" that one of the attorneys, Jeannie Rhee, represented Hillary Clinton during the FBI investigation of her private email server.

Schlapp and Fitton have pointed out the "consistent pattern" of Mueller hiring partisan Democrats and Schlapp also questioned what information these lawyers had access to in past cases.

Any attorney who worked for Hillary Clinton or represented her in another matter has res ipsa loquitur a conflict that would prevent them from working on a parking ticket case in any city court in America, but somehow when it involves the establishment versus Donald Trump legal ethics and conflicts of interest don’t matter if it disadvantages the President.

It is our view that this investigation in search of a crime, or rather partisan witch hunt, is being set up to maximize the potential for leaks against the President and to ensure the most anti-Trump spin possible is put on any information it reveals. Tom Fitton is right – it’s out of control and should be shut down.
