Whose Side Are You On, President Trump’s Or The NFL’s?

On Friday President Trump launched an attack on National Football League players who have been protesting by kneeling or staying on the bench or staying on the bench during the national anthem.

NFL boycottAmong the President’s comments were:

"You know what's hurting the game? .... When people like yourselves turn on television, and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem."

"The only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it's one player, leave the stadium, I guarantee things will stop. [Applause.] Things will stop. Just pick up and leave. Pick up and leave. Not the same game anymore, anyway."

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He's fired. He's fired!'"

“Some owner will do that. That owner, they don’t know it, they’ll be the most popular person for a week. They’ll be the most popular person in this country.”

This riff on the NFL protests shows Donald Trump, the supposedly out-of-touch billionaire, is more attuned to the feelings and opinions of the voters in the sports bars of his old neighborhood in Queens, New York City or in Huntsville, Alabama where the remarks were delivered, than are the owners, managers and marketers of the teams themselves.

Naturally, the Leftwing establishment media, the privileged liberal players who are protesting (what has never been made entirely clear) and their facilitators in the National Football League management all howled over the President’s remarks.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement that “divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players.”

Goodell’s flacks at NFL headquarters apparently had their irony detectors off when they had Goodell complain about players who disrespect the flag being disrespected in return, but that should not surprise anyone who is an observer of the social and cultural niche currently occupied by professional sports.

In a previous era, in the previous century, sports teams and sports stars promoted patriotism, sportsman-like values and their communities – or at least they thought it was good business to do so.

Not anymore.

According to CNN Money, the NFL is the most profitable pro sports league in the U.S., raking in an estimated $1 billion in profits on $10.5 billion in revenue last season, figures that are sure to increase this year.
Those massive profits, reports CNN, are made possible in part by the billions of taxpayer dollars that local governments spend on teams, coupled with tax breaks worth hundreds of millions for the teams, the league, their sponsors and fans.

Yet, today’s sports mega-corporations are not community-oriented enterprises, but part of the elite entertainment megaplex that encompasses Hollywood, the coastal elite media, Silicon Valley internet content companies, New York television networks and Wall Street.

Their goal is to squeeze as much ad revenue, licensing fee revenue and ticket and stadium sales out of each franchise – delivering an event that displays any of the sporting excellence or virtues of the Babe Ruth era of baseball, or the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” hockey game, is entirely secondary.

Today, rooting for one NFL team to beat another is like rooting for Walmart to beat Target, or MSNBC to beat CNN – it’s not about sports – it is merely two giant corporations, mired in political correctness, battling to win the ratings game on TV, nothing more.

The one NFL owner who has consistently deviated from this model is Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Jones allegedly said, “You will stand for the National Anthem, or your ass will be off this team,” which is certainly reflective of the attitude of his Texas market and knowing his market, let alone being a sincere patriot, may be why Jones’ Dallas Cowboys are the richest NFL franchise.

Donald Trump knows his market – and his market is not the Leftwing snowflakes of the NFL Players Association – it is the voters who are sick and tired of spending the entertainment dollars on “stars” who hate them and their values.

Our prediction is that Donald Trump will be the winner of this faceoff with the spoiled liberal players of the NFL and the weak-kneed management who have not only allowed, but paid, players to participate in these aimless protests.

The players, the teams, the owners, the commissioner - as well as game-day location businesses are soon going to feel a significant revenue drop. At that point it will become a business decision for them to either retain their political position and continue to bleed revenue, or fix the problem that caused fans to turn their backs on them - and HOPE the fans return.

On respecting our flag and anthem!

There are other ways to voice your opinion about one's ideas regarding inequality, etc. NOT STANDING FOR OUR ANTHEM is not one of them....listen to the words, and I mean of ALL 4 verses that Francis Scott Key composed.
I stand at attention, sing the words that mean so much, and put my hand over my heart. It's my way of showing
both respect and honor to a country that has afforded me the wonderful opportunity to become a productive
member of society, and succeed and thrive in so many ways. I thank God for our Armed Forces and our First
Responders who protect us each and every day. In addition, these football players and others that protest
AT WORK, and yes....they are at their jobs when they do this---should not be permitted to make political
statements it on your personal time. The President is absolutely NOT a racist, but has grown
weary of those who disrespect our flag, anthem, and our rich history! The Dallas Cowboys get it--they
are truly America's team. Sadly only one player on my team, the Steelers gets it---KUDOS to him-a
true Army hero!!! The values of America are vanishing....we must try to salvage them for our children-
so they can grow up to love and pledge allegiance to our flag, sing our anthem, and celebrate one
nation, the greatest nation, under God!!!!!!

Disrespect for our Patriotism

Kapernick is a dick! There was nothing wrong in our nations race relations until Obama was elected! He divided this country because he is a fraudulent, glorified, hood-rat! He was not born in America, and if you think that minorities don't get treated right in America, you are an imbicile! You NFL players, NBA players, MLB players, are paid ridiculous amounts of money, and only in America! You obviously don't want equal rights, you won't be satisfied until blacks have all the money, and whites are slaves! Only that will never happen because blacks aren't capable of leading! Greed, and other people's money is all you want! If you don't like America, get the hell out! Charles Barkley, is a damn idiot, Obama cursed every breath! Trumps white, you are a racist, so all white people in your eyes are wrong! The only thing we have gotten wrong, is giving blacks a platform!

free speach

I'm with the POTUS on this matter! I believe in free speech but your bringing sports into the arena which is the wrong platform! The American flag and anthem are to so support for our service people who lost their lives to give you this freedom! Find a neutral platform! Sports has never been political! leave it that way or you might find the sports platforms to fight our battles?

Against NFL for 3 years NOW !

I never likes the get out of jail free attitude they have had. Now they don't respect our Flag or POTUS .I haven't watched NFL in 3 years now and don't miss it at all. So much more to Sundays than just watch a bunch criminals play a game of catch and run.

Disrespect to our national flag

I have not watched the NFL SINCE THE 70'S and NBA since the early 80's. I do not think the majority of the above sports are not a positive for our young children.
