Far Left ‘Abortion Barbie’ Running Against Conservative Congressman Chip Roy

Abortion BarbieFar Left former Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, whose 11th hour antics on the floor of the Texas Senate temporarily stopped a 2013 bill to tighten restrictions on abortion looks like she is planning to run against principled limited government constitutional conservative Rep. Chip Roy in Texas congressional district 21.

Davis’ actions on the Texas Senate floor, including having a catheter installed to catch her urine during her filibuster, catapulted her to national attention on the Left. The Daily Caller’s Saurabh Sharma reminded us the live stream of the filibuster was tweeted out by then-President Barack Obama and led to widespread media coverage for Davis.

However, the bill she stalled eventually passed and after riding her national attention to the Democratic nomination for Governor, she suffered an epic defeat at the hands of Governor Greg Abbot in the 2014 general election.

The announcement of her potential run for Congress came from Davis’ confidant Marc Winkelman at a Gala for the Texas Observer, according to Dallas Morning News reporter Lauren McGaughy.

Davis became known for the pink sneakers she wore that night and made them a symbol of her strident pro-abortion views. Then-Gov. Rick Perry would eventually call a special session and sign the bill into law after it was killed in regular session by Davis’ filibuster.

She also picked up a nickname during the process, conservative commentator Erick Erickson dubbed her “Abortion Barbie,” a name that would go on to follow Davis at protests and in political advertising. Another Texas publication, Texas Monthly, gave her a different title, “Bum Steer of the Year,” wrote Saurabh Sharma for her landslide 20-point loss against now Governor Greg Abbott in 2014.

Conservatives are already lining up to help Rep. Roy fend-off the Far Left challenge from Davis, with The Resurgent’s Erick Erickson writing:

Abortion Barbie, Wendy Davis, just keeps running for office. Unsatisfied just being a mouthpiece for killing kids, she wants to get to Congress to pass legislation to make it easier to kill kids. It is her singular issue.

She is going to run against Resurgent endorsed Congressman Chip Roy. Unlike the one abortion note wonder, Congressman Roy is a multifaceted multi-issue candidate who cares deeply about the military, the budget, the out of control size of government, social issues, the free market, and more.

Rep. Chip Roy is a strong campaigner and has worked hard in his first term in Congress. However, as The Daily Caller’s Saurabh Sharma pointed out, he narrowly won his historically Republican district in 2018. The district became significantly more competitive due to the unprecedented amount of money 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke brought into the metropolitan areas of Texas during the election, causing formerly Republican urban districts to swing to Democrats for the first time in decades.

Conservatives should take nothing for granted in the Lone Star State, especially when a candidate who can attract millions in Hollywood money, like Robert Francis ‘Beto’ O’Rourke or Wendy Davis is on the ballot.

We urge readers and friends to join us in supporting Chip Roy for Congress by going to and making an early donation to help neutralize the Hollywood money we know is coming in against him as soon as ‘Abortion Barbie’ announces.
