Ted Cruz: Democrat calls to defund the police are asinine

Defund The Police
Senator Ted Cruz unloaded on “woke” Democrats calling for police departments to be defunded or disbanded, tweeting: Democrats’ calls to defund or disband the police are asinine and would end up killing many Americans if enacted.

Of course, Sen. Cruz is right, but it is amazing how many highly placed Democrats – including some who are responsible for the management or oversight of police departments have suddenly joined the get rid of the police crowd.

A Wall Street Journal editorial to which Cruz linked noted that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti wants to redirect $150 million from public safety to social programs, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was hooted from a protest on the weekend because he admitted he didn’t want to defund the police. City Council members now pledge to dismantle the force whether he wants to or not.

Lisa Bender, the president of the Minneapolis City Council, went viral for saying that calling the police when your home is broken into “comes from a place of privilege,” has said she wants a “police-free society,” and that she has a veto-proof majority on the city council for her plans.

This particularly interesting in view of the fact that Bender’s city council has oversight over Minneapolis’ troubled police department, an agency of a city that is totally controlled by Democrats.

And, lost in the rhetoric, riots, looting and revolutionary street battles that are taking place under the cover of the death of George Floyd is the fact that the Minneapolis police department has been troubled for a good long time.

In 2017 Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor (a Somali-American) shot and killed an unarmed white woman – Justine Ruszczyk Damond, a 40-year-old dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia.

Editor’s note: Noor was convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 12 and half years in prison.

That Ms. Damond’s murder at the hands of an ill-trained Minneapolis police officer did not spark weeks of nationwide rioting and looting is not our point here. The point is something has been seriously wrong with the training and discipline at the Minneapolis police department while the Democrats have been in charge – and their answer is not to look in the mirror and ask themselves “what did we miss or do wrong,” but to pander to the worst advocates of civil disorder and chaos.

And this scene is playing out across the country.

In New York, America’s worst Mayor, Democrat Bill de Blasio, announced a series of police “reforms,” including a shift in funding from the NYPD to youth and social services, moving the enforcement for street vending out of the NYPD to a civilian agency, and adding community ambassadors to the NYPD to serve as liaisons between officers and New Yorkers.

According to Forbes, “more than 40 New York city council candidates are calling for a $1 billion cut to the NYPD's $6 billion budget over four years to help fund other programs such as the city's summer youth employment program. In cities such as Minneapolis, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Nashville, similar movements are gaining traction.”

No word on whether you are supposed to call the “liaison” or the police if you are being murdered, mugged, raped, robbed, or assaulted.

CNN reported Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, said defunding the police means reallocating those funds to support people and services in marginalized communities. Defunding law enforcement "means that we are reducing the ability for law enforcement to have resources that harm our communities," Cullors said in an interview with WBUR, Boston's public radio station. "It's about reinvesting those dollars into black communities, communities that have been deeply divested from."

As we have pointed out time and again, going back to 2016 and Jim Simpson’s groundbreaking research in “Reds Exploiting Blacks: The Roots of Black Lives Matter,” Patrisse Cullors is deeply involved in Communist-inspired revolutionary organizations and the “communities” to which she refers must not be the inner city neighborhoods that her fellow revolutionaries have been burning down over the past two weeks.

While many large city Democrat politicians who are oblivious to the communist influence behind the calls to defund the police – or on the side of the revolutionaries – prepare to cut police budgets, the mayors and city councils in smaller cities (typically run by Republicans) are increasing their budgets, recognizing that all that stands between their residents and the chaos BLM seeks to create is a well-trained, well-funded police force.

Senator Ted Cruz was right, “Democrats’ calls to defund or disband the police are asinine and would end up killing many Americans if enacted.” We urge CHQ readers and friends to call their local city officials to demand that they increase their community’s law enforcement budget and that their local leaders recognize that calls to defund the police are another step in the long march to fundamentally change America into a socialist oligarchy.
