The Leftist Persecution Of Nick Sandmann Continues

Nick Sandmann
Covington Catholic High School graduate Nick Sandmann, the MAGA hat clad teenager who was falsely accused by major media outlets of abusing a Native American activist in front of Lincoln Memorial, and subsequently won significant payouts from several of them, still remains a target of the Left.

Mr. Sandmann committed two cardinal sins in the eyes of the Left: First, he failed to knuckle under and apologize after being falsely accused; and second, he fought back and won.

Oh, and third, he went on national TV during the Republican National Convention, gave a speech endorsing Donald Trump and put his MAGA hat on at the end.

Such self-confidence in one’s God-given right to live and think as one sees fit is intolerable to the Left, and so they decided to follow him when he went off to college at Kentucky’s Transylvania University.

Professor Jonathan Turley, perhaps America’s last great liberal mind, reported on his website that Samuel Crankshaw, an employee of the American Civil Liberties Union in Kentucky has targeted Transylvania University for admitting Nick Sandmann.

According to Prof. Turley’s reporting, Crankshaw went to Facebook to alert people that Sandmann would be attending the college and expressing veiled outrage that the school would admit someone with his views. He warns that this kid is “more dangerous” than figures like Milo Yiannopolous.  The “danger” is that a young freshman holds conservative views that are shared by roughly half of this country:

Does anyone else think it’s a bit of a stain on Transylvania University for accepting Nick Sandman? I’m sure it’s a “both sides” defense, but it’s pretty counter to their mission and another instance of there not actually being equal sides to an issue. I think TU should accept anyone willing to have an open mind and engage in debate, regardless of their views. That’s how we all learn. That’s Transy’s mission…

Having experienced the incredibly high standards Transy requires for admission and then holds its students to, this seems like a slap in the face. I hope some time in a real classroom changes him, but his twitter and public persona suggest otherwise.

Putting aside the provocateur label how would Crankshaw know that Sandmann has “no intention of learning” asked Prof. Turley.

One young twit (you can see Mr. Samuel Crankshaw’s profile here) posting on social media does not a conspiracy make, but here’s the scary part of Prof. Turley’s report:

One person responding was Dr. Avery Tompkins, an Assistant Professor and Diversity Scholar at Transylvania University, acknowledged that the university supported diverse viewpoints but promised to closely monitor Sandmann while he is on campus: “If he were to cause problems by being disruptive, trolling, or engaging in unethical behavior of any kind, I would immediately document it (just like I would for any student doing the same thing)…and he would just be putting himself in a position for me to file a conduct report.”

Doing the same thing? What thing? Free speech? Asked Prof. Turley. The ACLU’s Samuel Cranksaw was describing the exercise of free speech by someone with opposing views as unacceptable, and Prof. Tompkins responded that she will be closely watching him, noted Prof. Turley.

That Dr. Avery Tomkins’ academic discipline (using the term loosely) is “Sociology, Sociology/Anthropology, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies” gives you strong clues to where this collegiate Stasi agent in waiting is coming from. And of course, she learned this gender-political activism at all the right colleges and universities, so she has been bending the line between academics and political activism for almost two decades, no doubt poisoning many young minds along the way.

Dr. Tompkins and Mr. Crankshaw single out this one student, Nick Sandmann, for such added scrutiny and Cranksaw thanks Tompkins for the assurance of close monitoring. That such intolerance is accepted as a matter of course is deeply problematic, especially because Tompkins is speaking as an academic, and is promising to use her power as a professor to subject Nick Sandmann to scrutiny he has done nothing to deserve.

Having graduated from nearby Hanover College, I used to know Transylvania pretty well – I’ve been to the campus a number of times – but a lot has changed since the 1970s in the small private colleges and universities in the Midwest and South that were once bastions of classical learning and the liberal arts. Unfortunately, many if not most have now joined large urban universities in charging parents tens of thousands of dollars to teach their children nonsense like “Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies” and other stuff that used to be thought of as something akin to performance art.

We urge Nick Sandmann to give Transylvania a year, and if it doesn’t meet expectations there’s always Ave Maria University in Florida, Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia and Hillsdale College in Michigan to name but a few institutions of higher education where classical learning and traditional Judeo-Christian values are respected and indeed still taught.

George Rasley is editor of Richard Viguerie's and is a veteran of over 300 political campaigns. A member of American MENSA, he served on the staff of former Vice President Dan Quayle, as Director of Policy and Communication for former Congressman Adam Putnam (FL-12) then Vice Chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs, and as spokesman for Rep. Mac Thornberry former Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Like Vice President Mike Pence, Rasley is a graduate of Hanover College.

No Truer Compliment

There is no truer compliment than to occupy the headspace of your adversaries. That Nick Sandmann does so, seemingly without trying, is testimony to the pure "conservative-ness" he exudes. His unflappable manner, winning demeanor, and calm composure are all traits leftist student agitators (and faculty) fail and flunk-out because it's all about their feelings and not facts.

And fear...let's not forget fear. The left is terrified that even a single young mind has resisted liberal indoctrination. The Sandmann could ironically wake the zombie masses. Leftist society has painstakingly lulled today's youth into sheepish compliance but also endowed them with little in the way of cognitive reasoning; a perfectly short fuse capable of being lit by the slightest slight, poorly picked pronoun, or media mania meltdown.

So, Nick Sandmann, President Trump, Mike Flynn, Roger Stone, AG Barr, and all those who are the targets of the left's ire...congratulations! You are living free in the minds of millions of mutton.
