Democrats Threaten To Throw Trump And GOP In The Briar Patch

George Rasley, CHQ Editor

Before the African American folk wisdom Joel Chandler Harris recorded in his Uncle Remus stories was cancelled allegedly for being racist (it’s not IMHO) everyone knew the tale of Br'er Rabbit, Br’er Fox and the Tar Baby.

The short version is that in an effort to catch his nemesis, Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox constructed a doll made out of sticky tar, to which Br’er Rabbit got stuck due to his arrogance, allowing Br’er Fox to catch him and potentially make a fine dinner out of him. Br’er Rabbit escaped by convincing Br’er Rabbit that the cruelest torture of all would be to be thrown into the briar patch. However, after Br’er Fox threw him in the briar patch it turned out Br’er Rabbit was born and bred in that briar patch and he “skipped away as merry as a cricket while Br’er Fox ground his teeth in rage and went home.”

Such is likely to be the case if Democrats carry through on their threat to “shut down the government” rather than pass a Republican-drafted bill to keep the federal government running after the March 14, 2025, appropriations deadline.

Democratic Sen. Andy Kim (N.J.) said he and his fellow Democrats are ready to shut down the federal government over President Trump’s recent actions.

“I cannot support efforts that will continue this lawlessness that we’re seeing when it comes to this administration’s actions,” Kim said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And for us to be able to support government funding in that way only for them to turn it around, to dismantle the government. That is not something that should be allowed.”

According to reporting by Lauren Irwin of The Hill, Kim spoke on the show this past Sunday to discuss the ongoing action stemming from Trump and his administration. As Democrats grow frustrated with the changes, many are calling on them to protest.

He argued that his party is ready to shut down the federal government over the various actions, including shuttering the U.S. Agency for International Development and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) having access to federal payment systems.

Kim characterized Trump’s actions as “clearly illegal” and further argued that Republicans need Democrats to help fund the government ahead of the March deadline.

“In a few weeks, the Republicans are going to try to figure out how they move forward and they have, for the last two years, needed Democratic votes for every single continuing resolution and they should not count on that this time,” Kim said according to Ms. Irwin’s reporting.

Senator Kim has misread how things work in the Republican conference even worse than Br’er Fox misread Br’er Rabbit’s pleas not to be thrown in the briar patch.

The reason that past Continuing Resolutions have needed Democrat votes to pass is that conservatives refused to vote for the spending increases crafted by the Washington Uniparty alliance of House and Senate appropriators.

With recent disclosures of the vast network of fraud, pork and outright graft uncovered by the DOGE team Democrats refusing to vote for a bill that is acceptable to conservatives would be the equivalent of tossing them in the briar patch.

We can hardly wait for Democrats to stand up on the Floor of the House or Senate to make the case that American taxpayers should fund drag shows in Colombia, $59 million to enable grain and oilseed farmers with a special focus on female farmers in Ukraine, almost $500 million to fund leftist “journalists” all over the world, $3.4 million grant to a UConn professor to develop an app for Malaysian gay men "engaged in chemsex,” $10 million to create transgender mice, rats and monkeys, $1.3 million to make “Latinx” families more accepting of their gay kids, half a million bucks for gay classical music festivals in England, and the list of outrageous spending goes on and on to the tune of trillions of dollars.

Please Democrats throw Republicans in that Big Spending briar patch.
