George Landrith: See the REAGAN movie

Ronald Reagan was one of America’s greatest presidents. And he came upon the scene at a very important time. He restored America’s economic and military strength. He made winning the Cold War possible. As proof of his importance, nations around the globe have

statues of Ronald Reagan in their city squares because his world leadership helped expand liberty and freedom for millions of people dominated by totalitarian communist regimes, and he did it all without declaring war.

But the mainstream, corporate media devoted a lot of effort to vilifying Ronald Reagan. It obviously didn’t work because he won two landslide elections. But if you want to know Ronald Reagan’s amazing story, there is a great movie entitled — REAGAN — that stars Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan and Jon Voight, Penelope Ann Miller, Robert Davi, and Lesley-Anne Down in strong supporting roles.

The movie REAGAN is a historical biopic that shows Ronald Reagan from his childhood, through his college days and his early career, to his rise to serve as the governor of California, to his rise to the presidency of the United States and the premier leader in the free world. The movie does an amazing job of telling important parts of Reagan’s story through the eyes of a former KGB agent played by Jon Voight.

The movie is well written, well-acted, well produced, and it is an extraordinary movie. It is historically accurate, entertaining, powerful, and inspiring! The movie is a winner on a wide variety of levels. You don’t have to be a Ronald Reagan fan to enjoy the film. It is powerful and inspiring — you will laugh, get teary-eyed, and understand America’s victory in the Cold War and how a strong and unwavering commitment to correct principles can make a lasting difference.

The movie shows Ronald Reagan’s growth as a boy with small-town roots, overcoming the challenges of neighborhood bullies, his college years and his early work career, his rise to a Hollywood star and leading the Screen Actors Guild, and his political leadership — first as the governor of California, and then becoming the President of the United States leading America and the rest of the free world against the forces of totalitarianism. The movie does a great job of capturing America’s spirit and the commitment of Ronald Reagan to protecting and expanding the American dream.

Dennis Quaid does a great job of playing Ronald Reagan. He even mastered a number of Ronald Reagan’s mannerisms which made me forget that Dennis Quaid was an actor playing Reagan. Another element of the movie was how Jon Voight played a former KGB agent, Viktor Petrovich, who had studied and followed Ronald Reagan as early as the 1950s when he was the head of the Screen Actors Guild. It was interesting to see how the Soviet KGB determined early on that Ronald Reagan could be real trouble for the Soviet regime and studied him closely to see how they could neutralize his pro-American, pro-freedom and pro-opportunity approach.

The movie in very powerful and moving ways shows the assassination attempt on Reagan’s life and his strength and recovery; how he called for Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall; how he defeated the Soviet Union and expanded freedom across Eastern Europe. The movie also helps one understand how Reagan laser focused on promoting and strengthening the American dream for all. But the movie isn’t partisan in focus — it makes no attempt to bash Democrats. And it shows how Reagan worked with Democrats to promote the American dream. It shows Ronald Reagan as an ordinary person who accomplished extraordinary things because of his commitment to promoting America’s ideals and the principles of Americanism.

REAGAN is a movie that I am very grateful to have seen and it is one that I will take my entire family to see. I know they will love it and appreciate it on so many different levels — entertainment, educational, moving, and inspiring!  Reagan, like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and FDR, helped promote America’s greatness and America’s confidence in the American dream and the ideal that we are all created equal and endowed with unalienable rights.
