This should be the top story on every American news outlet, but it has been largely covered up: U.S. Border Patrol agents came under fire from suspected Mexican cartel members at
about 1:30pm Monday. Law enforcement said the shootings occurred as a group of illegal aliens attempted to cross the Rio Grande. Border Patrol agents returned fire and deployed surveillance drones, leading to the gunmen moving deeper into Mexico. None of the illegal aliens made it into the United States.
“DPS responded to assist the US Border Patrol after agents received gunfire from cartel members in Mexico while patrolling in Fronton,” Lt. Chris Olivarez, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety South, wrote on social media. “DPS drone operators captured the gunmen fleeing Mexico due to military presence and seeking refuge on an island between the US and Mexico.”
U.S. Border Patrol agents received warnings on Tuesday that they may come under fire from the Mexican cartel forces in the area as retaliation for the border crackdown of the border by the U.S.
The Mirror in the UK reports “The leader and founder of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho", is said to be "preparing" the cartel to face up to Trump. The CJNG has reportedly armed itself with high-caliber weapons, among then RPG missile launches, since Trump's return to the White House was confirmed.”
While the American media, other than FOX, largely ignored the incident, Anabel Hernández, journalist and podcaster, revealed that El Mencho has a plan to confront the designation of drug cartels as terrorist organizations. Speaking on her podcast Narcosistema, she said: "After Trump announced his war against the Mexican cartels, today, it is the organization that is preparing itself the fastest with powerful weapons to fight."*
According to the Mirror’s report, Ms. Hernández claimed:
El Mencho and his cartel have spent "a little over a month" acquiring RPG missile launchers, reportedly paying at least $60,000 (£48,000) for each one. The weapons have the "capacity to shoot down armoured vehicles and artillery and even airplanes", she added.
The cartel leader, who has a $15 million (£12 million) bounty on his head, has also ordered bunkers to be built between Jalisco and Colima for emergencies as he grows concerned for his safety. The bunkers are said to be made with high technology so people can hide and avoid air attacks, the journalist added.
He has also ordered airports and cities to be kept under "surveillance to detect suspicious Americans", as well as for "surveillance in US consulates".
Anna Giaritelli, a reporter for the Washington Examiner, issued a post on X.com on Monday which has been widely shared and repeated for the last 24 hours saying that cartel chiefs had granted the “green light” for cartels to engage the U.S. on January 21, the day following President Trump’s executive order declaring cartels terrorist organizations.
Speaking to the UK’s Guardian, Lucas Webber, a senior threat intelligence analyst at Tech Against Terrorism, said cartel responses against raids or airstrikes ordered by the US could land on tourists or diplomats visiting Mexico. He added the retaliation could also extend to soldiers carrying out the President's orders or even strike further into American territory.
He said: "There is certainly a possibility that airstrikes and raids could eventually occur. Cartels may retaliate by hitting soft targets such as tourists or diplomatic targets in Mexico, possibly the soldiers the Trump administration is deploying at the shared border or even tap networks inside the US itself."
On Day One of his new administration President Trump indicated he wanted 10,000 troops sent to the southern border, but somehow the Biden “left behinds” at the Pentagon managed to get that number whittled down to a mere 1,500 troops. Considering this escalation of the cartel threat we urge President Trump. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to speed up their plans for the deployment of 10,000 troops to our southern border.
*Even before President Trump’s Executive Orders were announced the cartels were known to deploy weapons heavy enough to bring down aircraft. See https://www.breitbart.com/border/2024/03/04/cartel-gunmen-shoot-down-mexican-army-helicopter-during-clash/
