Rappers Kodak Black and Fivio Foreign have linked up with former President and 2024
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for a new song. Sam Moore, writing for hiphopdx.com reports while Trump does not actually get in the booth, “ONBOA47RD” uses a recording of his first speech made after the recent attempt on his life at a rally in Pennsylvania.
“I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” he says as a pounding drill beat plays in the background, reported Mr. Moore. “And I’m here today to announce a brand-new plan to deliver more opportunity, more security, more fairness.”
The pro-Trump track also opens with audio from the former president’s 2017 inauguration where he declared: “I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never, ever let you down.”
Mr. Moore reported that, while Fivio is light on the political bars, with his references limited to Trump calling him when he was “on tour,” Kodak salutes the former Apprentice star, who pardoned him from prison in one of his last acts as president.
“I ain’t even see this many black people freed during the Obama days / Told her she can anything she want, just not my Donald chain,” he raps, referencing the $10,000 gold Trump chain he copped in 2022.
Trump is a credited songwriter on the track due to its sampling of his speech, noted the hiphopdx.com report.
"ONBOA47RD" refers to Trump's current bid to be the 47th president of the United States, and the two rappers are more than happy to endorse him for it.
To announce the release of the track, which dropped shortly after midnight on Friday, August 16th. Fivio Foreign took to Twitter to announce the release, tagging both Trump and Kodak Black, and simply stating, “Surprise,” which might be one of the biggest understatements of the year, wrote Amina Ali in a post for hot97.com.
Fivio Foreign’s lyrics focus on his personal battles, mentioning his demons and “fighting for the cause,” while Kodak Black reflects on his transformation, describing himself as a “drug dealer turned diplomat” and referencing his bond with Trump.
Of course, noted Gabriel Bras Nevares in an article for hotnewhiphop.com this track resulted in a lot of backlash from fans online, whether they were Republican supporters, strong opposers, or just fans of Fivio or Kodak's music. Their issues ranged from the politics on display to the corniness of the track, among other criticisms.
As far as the song itself goes, it's a pretty standard Fivio Foreign and Kodak Black performance with some sharp bars here and there and the beat is unremarkable, but the presidential references are what distinguishes the track observed Gabriel Bras Nevares. Social media reaction was mixed as one observer panned the track as “the corniest s*** I seen in a minute. Oof,” noted Ms. Ali.
However, as @KaladinFree explained: Fivio Foreign and Kodak Black dropped a song with/supporting Trump. People who aren’t aware of hip-hop culture won’t understand the significance, but these are not washed-up rappers or weird wannabes like the “Trump’s Nephew” guy. The fact is, it’s more socially acceptable now than ever to openly support Trump. We’ve pretty much moved back to the pre-2016 days when hip hop loved Trump.
