Yesterday was the third anniversary of the August 26, 2021, suicide bombing at Abbey Gate outside Kabul, Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai International Airport. Thirteen brave and selfless American service members were killed in the attack, and 45 others were injured. The Abbey Gate bombing has come to serve as a metaphor for the disastrous withdrawal order given
to US forces by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
President Joe Biden, who ordered the chaotic withdrawal, issued a perfunctory written statement from his vacation home noting the anniversary, and Vice President and Democrat nominee for President Kamala Harris, the last person in the room when the decision was made, issued a similarly quotidian statement.
In the immediate aftermath of the attack Joe Biden said he had directed the Pentagon to develop plans to strike the "assets, leadership and facilities" of ISIS-K, an ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan. "We will not forgive, we will not forget, we will hunt you down and make you pay," he said. "We will respond with force and precision," he added. "We will not be deterred by terrorists."
Biden would later lie to the Gold Star families, telling the mother of Lance Cpl. Dylan Merola at the return ceremony at Dover Airforce Base, “my wife Jill and I know how you feel. We lost our son as well and brought him home in a flagged dropped coffin.” Lance Cpl. Merola’s mother later said, “My heart starting beating faster and I started shaking knowing their son died from cancer."
During the disastrous June 27 debate that kicked off a nearly monthlong effort to get Biden off the Democratic ticket, the president boldly claimed that he was “the only president this century that doesn’t have any this — this decade, that doesn’t have any troops dying anywhere in the world, like [Trump] did.”
The remark enraged the Kabul Gold Star families, who told The New York Post it was more proof of Biden failing to acknowledge their losses.
“It took all self-restraint not to put my fist right through my TV,” Mark Schmitz, whose son Marine Cpl. Jared Schmitz was among the fallen 13, told The Post at the time.
“I was beyond ticked off, disrespected,” he said. “That’s all we’ve ever gotten out of this president.”
In a column earlier this month the Washington Post’s Marc A. Thiessen observed that three years later, not a single one of the terrorist leaders responsible for orchestrating those deaths has received justice. It seems Biden’s threat to “respond with force and precision” and “hunt you down and make you pay," were as usual empty tough talk meant to get him past an embarrassing news cycle, not enunciate American policy.
Nor were any of the military officers or State Department officials or Department of Defense civilians disciplined or forced out, and President Biden remains privately defiant that he made the right calls on Afghanistan in 2021 despite the U.S. military's chaotic and deadly exit.
In contrast to the Democrats who created the debacle, former President and 2024 Republican nominee for President Donald Trump went to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath and meet with the Gold Star Families and now-former service members wounded in the attack.
Trump’s remarks to the families and the wounded have remained private, but he did release a statement on his Truth Social: “This is the third anniversary of the BOTCHED Afghanistan withdrawal, the most EMBARRASSING moment in the history of our Country. Gross Incompetence – 13 DEAD American soldiers, hundreds of people wounded and dead, AMERICANS and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT LEFT BEHIND.”
“You don’t take our soldiers out first, you take them out LAST, when all else is successfully done. Russia then invaded Ukraine, Israel was attacked, and the USA became, and is, a laughing stock all over the World. THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA REMAINS SILENT IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE WORST ADMINISTRATION IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY! MAGA2024.”
We honor their service and their names: Marines Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, 20, Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak, and Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss.

If there is a definition of hypocritical Communist traitor in the dictionary then Bite-Me Biden's picture is right next to it. And if there's a definition of incompetent Communist fool in the dictionary, then Willie Brown's ex-girlfriend's pic is right next to that.
