Most of the establishment media hid this information somewhere in the back of the newspaper with the mattress ads or used cars for sale, so you may be forgiven for not catching it on your own, but the Bureau of Labor Statistics has just ‘fessed-up to cooking the books for the past year to make it look like the Harris – Biden Democrats’ policies had created a booming jobs market.
Well, actually they didn’t ‘fess-up to cooking the books, they merely announced that the biggest “revision” ever to the employment numbers was in order – and it was a whopper of a revision.
It turns out the jobs created figures they had released previously were overstated by a whopping 1.1 million jobs.
As our friend Stephen Moore explained in yesterday’s Committee to Unleash Prosperity Hotline, this is devastating political news for Kamala Harris as she accepts the Democratic Party’s nomination for President and launches her campaign against former President Donald Trump:
As Steve Moore wrote, “One of the few areas that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been able to crow about since they took office has been employment.
Even as inflation has soared with prices up 20% and real incomes down by $2,100 per family on their watch, hiring has [allegedly] been strong and unemployment low - until recently.
“But now we learn that much of this was a statistical illusion. The new re-estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics find that the agency overcounted some 800,000 jobs. Over the last year, employment was nearly 30% lower than originally announced. Oops.
“It gets worse. The original headline numbers released each month have been revised DOWNWARD by another 300,000 in subsequent months. Add it all together and we have 1.1 million fewer Americans working than originally announced.
“Either the Labor Department has been manipulating the numbers (which we think is unlikely), or the agency under Biden is incompetent in counting. Either way, there should be an investigation.
“Oh, and by the way, the new revisions also reveal that the private sector jobs that matter most - business services, construction, manufacturing, finance - were lower than originally announced, while the jobs in government-related activities were revised UPWARD.
“More evidence that we keep adding jobs where we don't want them and shedding jobs where they are most needed,” charged Mr. Moore.
Steve is giving the BLS more credit for honesty and integrity than we would, and former President Trump wasn’t inclined to cut them any slack either.
Former President Trump portrayed the revised job creation numbers the Bureau of Labor Statistics released publicly on Wednesday as an accidental disclosure. He further accused the Biden-Harris administration of “manipulating job statistics” and trying to prevent the disclosure of the updated figures until after the election. The agency announced that the economy had created 818,000 fewer jobs between April 2023 and March 2024 — the biggest revision in federal jobs data since 2009.
“There’s never been any revision like this,” Trump said, during a speech in North Carolina that his campaign intended originally to focus on national security. “They wanted it to come out after the election, but somehow it got leaked,” the former President charged.
Bonchie’s tweet reproduced above is right, Raimondo is either incompetent or lying. Remembering how the Census Bureau cooked the books to minimize the loss of Democrat seats in Congress after the 2020 Census we put nothing past the Deep State bureaucracy in their effort to keep Democrats in power, so we are inclined to go with lying on this one.
The Capitol Switchboard is (202-224-3121), we urge CHQ readers and friends to call your Representative and House Oversight Committee James Comer and urge them to issue subpoenas, hold public hearings and get to the bottom of how the Bureau of Labor Statistics got their numbers so wrong in this election year.
