Today, America Breathes A Sigh Of Relief, But…

Americans will breathe a collective sigh of relief today as the disastrous Biden presidency comes to an end and President Donald J. Trump reenters the Oval Office.

However, the expectation that President Trump is going to immediately rectify the damage done by  the four years of Biden’s disastrous maladministration is both an important tool for the incoming President, and a trap that could erase all the political capital, goodwill and energy needed to make good on the promises and policy agenda that brought him victory in the 2024 election.

Indeed, three developments this past weekend reveal just what a difficult future lies before Mr. Trump.

The first is that the Deep State may have been defeated at the ballot box, but it has not been removed from the battlefield that is the federal government.

The clearest evidence of that reality was the revelation that the much-anticipated “shock and awe” round up of illegal aliens allegedly scheduled for the first day new Trump administration had to be postponed due to leaks from within the Department of Homeland Security.

President-elect Donald Trump's handpicked 'border czar' Tom Homan has said the administration is reconsidering immigration raids on Chicago and New York after details were leaked in news reports.

'We're looking at this leak and will make a decision based on this leak,' Homan said. 'It's unfortunate because anyone leaking law enforcement operations puts officers at great risk.'

ICE had its sights on the Democratic-run city of Chicago and NYC as its first targets for mass deportations, with a raid expected on Tuesday morning less than 24 hours after Trump's second inauguration the UK’s Daily Mail reported.

The so-called Israeli – Hamas peace deal or hostage release arrangement is another matter where President Trump’s use of the bully pulpit to drive a foreign policy result has already gone awry.

In a wide-ranging press conference conducted on January 7, 2025 at his Mar-a-Lago resort, President-elect Trump said “all hell will break out in the Middle East” if the Israeli and American hostages taken by Hamas are not returned by the time of Inauguration Day.

Unfortunately for Mr. Trump and the hostages the incoming President appointed fellow billionaire Steve Witkoff as “special envoy” to the Middle East to emphasize his interest and commitment to getting the hostages, especially the Americans, back.

Witkoff has proven himself to be a naïve amateur in negotiating with his Muslim counterparts.

The result of his “deal” is not the release of the hostages (especially Americans) by Inauguration Day, but the promised release of just 33 hostages (out of the 100 unaccounted for) spread out over the next three months. In an obvious humiliation aimed at President Trump, no Americans will be among the first tranche of hostages due to be released before he is sworn in.

What’s more, Hamas broke the agreement before implementation even began by failing to provide the required lists of hostages (living and dead) according to the timeline set forth in the agreement, and failing to deliver the first three to be released on time.

What Witkoff, and perhaps President Trump too, fail to understand is that when Muslims “negotiate” with infidels (that’s us) no “deal” is final or binding. That’s because they are not conducting a business transaction, but a war in which lying and deceit are time-honored weapons, and as part of their war with us they have just won a major victory by making Trump’s “all Hell will break out” promise into empty bluster.

Finally, there is the matter of President Trump’s Cabinet and sub-cabinet nominees and appointments.

With Mr. Trump ready to place his hand upon the Bible and be sworn in for his second term the Senate seems strangely uninterested in getting his Cabinet confirmed and when the new President leaves the stage Far Left activist Democrats will still be in charge of the government.

And that’s exactly the way Joe Biden – or whoever has been pulling the strings for the last four years – set it up.

On his way out the door Biden issued Executive Orders setting the order of succession in a number of key departments, including:

What’s more, it doesn’t seem to have dawned on anyone in Trump world that the people in charge of doing the pre-confirmation screening and ethics reports ARE ALL BIDEN DEMOCRATS at the Office of Government Ethics.

And they have been slow walking the paperwork for many of President Trump’s key Cabinet and sub-cabinet nominees.

The result of this passive-aggressive “resistance” and the Senate majority’s acquiescence in it is that come Tuesday morning Democrats will open the doors of every department of the government Donald Trump was just elected to oversee and reform.

We urge all CHQ readers and friends to share this important information widely. The Capitol Switchboard is (202-224-3121), we urge CHQ readers and friends to call their Senators to demand they vote to confirm Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, Pam Bondi, for Attorney General, Kristi Noem for Secretary of the Dept. of Homeland Security, John Ratcliffe for Director of the CIA, Marco Rubio for Secretary of State, Russ Vought for Director of the Office of Management and Budget, and Kash Patel for FBI Director, and others who have crucial portfolios in the new Trump administration.
