Yes, Tim Walz Really Is A Communist

We’ve posted several columns explaining the Communist backgrounds and associations of

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, you can find them through these links, here, here, and here, but to our surprise some observers we respect, including some good conservatives, have questioned whether it is appropriate or even useful to label Harris and Walz and their policies as “Communist.”

With that in mind we take to heart the comments the much-esteemed Roger Simon recently posted to Substack:

Despite the growing similarity between the CCP and Democratic Party, it ill behooves conservatives and libertarians, including their standard bearer Mr. Trump, simply to call the opposition party “commies” and leave it at that.  That only impresses “the choir.” Most  Americans, our educational system being next to non-existent or propagandistic for the other side, understand little of what communism has become. If anything, they think of Stalin or Mao, who are long in their graves and supposedly a thing of the past. This renders the charge irrelevant with communist ideology cleansed and made suitable through the rubric “equity” that promises a mythological “equality of outcomes.”

You can read Mr. Simon’s entire commentary on the question of whether Harris, Walz and the broader Democratic Party are or have become Communists through this link and it is definitely worth a read.

So, taking Mr. Simon’s admonition to heart let’s examine the evidence of Tim Walz’s Communist sympathies.

First, Governor Walz, having once been a teacher, there is evidence in his long history of public statements advocating Communism to his students. As Alana Goodman of the Washington Free Beacon documented:

As a high school teacher in the 1990s, Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota governor Tim Walz appeared to extol life under Chinese communism, telling his students that it is a system in which “everyone shares” and gets free food and housing.

“It means that everyone is the same and everyone shares,” Walz said during a lesson on China’s communist system in November 1991. “The doctor and the construction worker make the same. The Chinese government and the place they work for provide housing and 14 kg or about 30 pounds of rice per month. They get food and housing.”

Walz’s remarks were reported in a 1991 article in Nebraska’s Alliance Times-Herald that focused on his work on student exchange programs in China. At the time, Walz was teaching social studies at a Nebraska high school.

This “shockingly naïve description of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule” is the kind of “soft sell” Communism of the university faculty lounge, but it inevitably leads to the killing fields of Pol Pots’ Khmer Rouge and Red China’s Tiananmen Square Massacre.  The Tiananmen Square Massacre is an event, with which Tim Walz is intimately associated as he was in Communist China at the time and chose its anniversary date for his wedding.

Please note that, as documented above, Tim Walz’s student trips to Red China, at least initially, were paid for by the Communist Chinese government.

After Walz’s public statements one might also look to the testimony of those who know him or knew him as a student or associate, here too the evidence is overwhelming.

Liz Collin, writing for Alpha News, interviewed one of Walz’s students who accompanied him on one of his many visits to Red China. “It was almost a daily revelation of how much he adores the communist regime,” the former student told Alpha News.

Walz and his group of students explored China together in the summer of 1995, Shad said. They saw Tiananmen Square, walked along the Great Wall of China, and traversed the country. However, the former student says he was struck by Walz’s adoration for China and its communist ideology.

“There was no doubt he was a true believer,” former student Shad said. “I’ve been trying to tell people this for 30 years. Nobody wanted to listen.

“At night, we’d go out, we’d walk the street fairs. We’d be buying souvenirs and Tim was always buying the little red book. He said he gave them as gifts … I saw him buy at least a dozen on the trip,” he said.

“It would be like in Germany and buying copies of Mein Kampf,” the then student told Alpha news.

“If there was any doubt about what I’m saying just look at the policies enacted by his administration like the country’s worst abortion law, anti-free speech, the riots,” the former student pointed out. “He’s a Maoist to the core and should not be underestimated.”

The former student also drew attention to the similarities between the messaging of Walz and Kamala Harris—including phrases like “the politics of joy” and “unburdened by what has been”—and the propaganda materials used by Mao.

“People need to have their eyes wide open,” said Walz’s former student. “The snitch hotline in Minnesota is straight out of CCP. Tim Walz is a very bright guy. None of this by accident.”

Years ago I had a colleague from Hong Kong who was fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. He had a "little red book" too. But the cover said "Sayings of Chairman LBJ." Every page was blank. He said that he enjoyed listening to the propaganda from Beijing (in Mandarin) and interpreting it in Cantonese. "Power to the People" in Mandarin isn't repeatable in English in polite company. If you're really curious and ready for it, paste "yob tvoiyu mat'" into a Russian translator.
