When we saw that headline in a recent edition of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity Hotline, we thought it was a typo. After all, that’s almost the combined population of two of our most populous states, New York and Florida. However, it turns out that one out of eight families in America now use taxpayer handouts to put food on the table, and who gets the food assistance will really make your blood boil.
This is one of the many “entitlement timebombs” the Obama-Biden Democrats embedded in the federal budget, and the program has exploded by an astonishing 40% since the Biden Administration took office in 2021 reported CTUP. With the government shutdown now in its second month, the Trump administration is using contingency funds set aside for natural disasters to pay about 50% of the food stamp benefits.
But what was the real eye-opener was who is getting the food stamps.
As you can see from the map below, blue states have ignored work requirements. The purple areas have essentially no work requirements, meaning the able-bodied can collect food benefits without even looking for a job, let alone holding one.
And it gets worse. As the CTUP article noted, not only is the Left demanding everyone who's on the program stay on it, they are insisting that there be no citizenship checks for beneficiaries. When the Agriculture Department asked the states for data to ensure illegal immigrants weren't on the program, 21 blue states refused. But even from just the 29 cooperating states, USDA found massive fraud. One person was receiving food stamps from SIX different states, the CTUP report found.
What’s more, even in Republican-controlled states hundreds of thousands of non-citizens are getting food stamps.
Earlier this year, the conservative think tank Economic Policy Innovation Center (EPIC) revealed that nearly 1.5 million non-citizens received food stamps from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Another 2.2 million children living with non-citizens were also on food stamps. Given that this data was from fiscal year 2022, it's likely this population of non-citizens leeching off American taxpayers is much higher, given the Biden-Harris regime's globalist-aligned open-border invasion of third-worlders.
"These nearly 1.5 million non-citizens collected a total of $4.2 billion in Food Stamp benefit payments," EPIC's Matthew Dickerson wrote according to a report in ZeroHedge.
Dickerson continued: California led the way in enrolling non-citizens on Food Stamps, with 273,000 in FY 2022. Florida had 238,000, New York 218,000, Texas 132,000, and Illinois 73,000 non-citizens. Only Delaware, Mississippi, Montana, West Virginia, and Wyoming reported no non-citizens on Food Stamps.
Steven A. Camarota, director of research at the Center for Immigration Studies, looked at the major cash, food, and housing programs, along with Medicaid. Use of these programs is an important indicator of fiscal impact not only because the programs themselves are costly, but because those receiving them generally pay little to no income tax.
Camarota and his colleagues estimate that 59% of households headed by an illegal immigrant use one or more of these welfare programs, compared to 39% of native-headed households. Illegal-immigrant households make especially high use of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); free or reduced-price school meals; Medicaid; and food stamps. We estimate that this population costs these programs roughly $42 billion annually.
The numbers are indisputable – illegals are being propped up on the taxpayers' dime. Now is the time to cut the food stamps and handouts to illegals, and give illegal aliens another reason to self deport.
