A Job Requirement for Elective Office in America: Support the Constitution

Today, November 11th is Veterans Day, a national holiday on which we remember and thank those who have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic – and, in many cases, gave their lives doing so. Veterans Day seems to be an appropriate time to call attention to the importance of that oath (or variations on the theme) sworn by other public servants and office-holders, as well. A Victory Coalition webinar will address these topics from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on November 11th Register to participate at VictoryCo.org.

Specifically, the question arises: Can those like New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who adhere to one or more ideologies that require the destruction of our constitutional Republic, be allowed to swear faithlessly such an oath? And, if they do so, should such perfidy be grounds for preventing their serving?

As it happens, a social media satire claimed Mamdani canceled an oath-taking ceremony requiring him to pledge to “support and uphold” the U.S. Constitution.

Evidently, the event will take place. But it’s no laughing matter that he can’t possibly make such a promise truthfully.

Mamdani’s election should catalyze a discussion of the inadvisability of allowing individuals who, as Trevor Loudon puts it, “could not pass a security check to drive a school bus” to serve in sensitive positions of trust and responsibility, especially for public safety and national and/or homeland security.

Moreover, the prospect that there will be a growing number of candidates like Zohran Mamdani nationwide demands that individuals elected to jobs vital to the safety and security of Americans, like those appointed to such positions, be subject to background checks and obtain security clearances.

The Founders wisely required that officeholders attest to their loyalty to the Constitution. Anyone who cannot or will not faithfully state and honor such a commitment must be precluded from pursuing their revolutionary agenda from inside our government.

A Victory Coalition webinar will address these topics from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on November 11th.
