A revealing Rasmussen Reports survey demonstrates that despite aggressive efforts by Democrats and their allies on the Left to promote transgender ideology, 69% of Americans still reject it, and don’t want schools going behind parents’ backs to push such ideas on children.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 19% of American Adults now think schools and teachers should be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent, while 69% are opposed to such policies, and 13% are not sure. Opposition to such counseling increased slightly since Rasmussen last asked this question in June 2024. And see similar results from Rasmussen’s 2023 survey.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) agree with the statement that “there are two genders, male and female,” including 55% who Strongly Agree. Twenty-three percent (23%) disagree, including 12% who Strongly Disagree. These findings have barely changed since June 2024.

Among those who Strongly Agree that “there are two genders, male and female,” 83% are against schools and teachers being allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent.

Eighty-three percent (83%) of Republicans, 60% of Democrats and 66% of those not affiliated with either major at least somewhat agree with the statement that “there are two genders, male and female.”

Majorities of all political categories – 77% of Republicans, 59% of Democrats and 71% of the unaffiliated – are against allowing schools and teachers to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent.

Older Americans are more likely to Strongly Agree that “there are two genders, male and female,” but majorities of every age category are opposed to schools going behind parents’ backs to counsel students on their identities.

More men (73%) than women (65%) agree that there are only two genders. Women under 40 are least likely to agree.

Majorities of every racial category – 69% of whites, 75% of blacks, 67% of Hispanics and 65% of other minorities – at least somewhat agree with the statement that “there are two genders, male and female.” Hispanics are most opposed to schools and teachers being allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent.

Among those with children at home, 72% agree “there are two genders, male and female,” and 71% are against allowing schools and teachers to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent.

The survey of 1,295 American Adults was conducted on September 11 and 14-15, 2024 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
