CHQ Endorsed Candidate Dan Green Wins GOP Primary In Florida’s New Congressional District 9

CHQ is proud to announce that our friend conservative warrior Dan Green, whom we endorsed for the Republican nomination to represent Florida’s newly created Congressional District 9 has won the hard-fought Republican primary.

Green emerged from the crowded field to hold off a late surge by agribusinessman Ben Butler who made it a horserace with a powerful “send them a message” campaign based on his experience as a dairy farmer. “Growing up on this cattle ranch, I learned one simple rule. When you see bulls***, clean it up,” was Mr. Butler’s tagline.

But in the end, it was Dan Green’s “America First, America Only” message and his superior campaign organization that carried the day.

The unofficial final tally shows Dan Green taking about 25.4% of the vote and narrowly edging out rancher Ben Butler’s 24.4%. Former Osceola School Board Member Thomas Chalifoux took about 20% of the vote, while Orlando businessman took 19%. Veterans Marcus Carter and Justin Story each earned around 4% support while fellow veteran Steve Rance took around 2%.

Dan Green grew up in Indian River County, the conservative heart of the new Ninth District, graduated from Vero Beach High School and attended American University, Florida State University, and George Washington University with a focus on Political Science and International Relations, and earning his PhD in the process.

In 2019, Dan was appointed by President Trump as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy & Force Development at the U.S. Department of Defense. While in the Department of Defense, Dan played a pivotal role in our ongoing defense strategy and scenario planning.

Dan Green was working in the Pentagon on September 11th and experienced the devastating attack firsthand. The attack on our nation greatly impacted Dan and strengthened his resolve to serve his country. Dan joined the United States Navy, where he completed four tours throughout the Middle East and Central Asia. He also completed a civilian tour of duty to southern Afghanistan with the U.S. Department of State.

Dan is also a former Research Fellow for Defense Analysis in The Heritage Foundation's Allison Center for National Security. Dr. Green has recently earned the rank of Captain, US Navy Reserves.

While serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, Dan was attached to two SEAL Team deployments, including in Fallujah and southern Afghanistan; he also served in Baghdad and Kabul. His boots-on-the-ground experience has made him an expert in counterterrorism, foreign policy, and the toll of war on our brave veterans.

Dan Green will be a strong supporter of President Trump’s “Peace Through Strength” policies, as his testimony before the U.S. House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Hearing on Deterrence Amid Rising Tensions: Preventing CCP Aggression on Taiwan demonstrates.

While Dan Green’s professional career has been one of military service, he is a full spectrum conservative, committed to the Make America Great Again agenda of lower taxes, less government and more freedom.

That translates into demanding that the government follow the Constitution, getting government overregulation out of the way to lower Florida property insurance rates, make groceries and gas more affordable and putting a stop to the policies that encourage overdevelopment in Florida.

“I didn't fight radical extremists overseas just to stand by and watch left-wing extremists attack our freedoms here at home. I'm running for Congress because I believe that access to opportunity and prosperity for those willing to work for it are American ideals worth protecting. In Congress, I will fight to make America affordable again, because when groceries and gas prices are too high, Florida's families, farmers and small business owners suffer,” Dan said in a recent conversation with CHQ.

Seven candidates qualified to be on the ballot for Florida’s August 18, 2026 Congressional District 9 Republican Primary. As the winner Dan Green will take on Far Left Democrat incumbent Darren Soto in a newly drawn district that favors a Republican by 6 to 8 points.

The Florida Congressional District 9 race is one of our best opportunities to flip a Far-Left Democrat seat to the conservative column. We urge conservatives to support Dan Green, a full spectrum conservative who combines national-level experience with deep ties to Florida’s heartland.
