Conservative Leaders Urge the Swift Confirmation of Ed Martin as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia

The leaders of the conservative organizations that participate in the Conservative Action Project, who represent millions of conservative voters nationwide, have issued the following statement urging the Senate to take immediate action to confirm Acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

May 7, 2025
Washington, DC

Conservatives strongly support the nomination of Edward R. (Ed) Martin to be the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. We urge the Senate to move swiftly to confirm him.

Ed Martin is superbly qualified for the position to which President Trump has nominated him. In addition to maintaining his own law practice, Martin has worked as an associate with Bryan Cave LLP and clerked for Judge Pasco M. Bowman II of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has used his legal training to benefit low-income and underserved populations as the Human Rights Office Director for the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis. Martin has also served as the Chairman of the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners, Chief of Staff to Missouri Governor Matt Blunt, held senior positions at the Eagle Forum and Legal Defense Fund, and served as senior counsel for Americans United for Life.

Martin has already shown the depth and breadth of his experience as D.C. U.S. Attorney. In this role, he has negotiated an $8.4 million settlement with Raytheon Companies and Nightwing Group over non-compliance with cybersecurity requirements in federal contracts. He has clawed back $1 million of taxpayer money that was over-billed to the U.S. Agency of International Development, and has overseen the guilty plea of a former State Department budget analyst who embezzled more than $650,000.

Martin has also taken critical steps to make the nation’s capital safe again, bringing federal firearms charges against 24 defendants during the month of April – the highest number of case adoptions since before January 2021.

Ed Martin has refocused the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office away from the partisan application of justice and toward routing out corruption, stewarding taxpayer resources, and returning basic law enforcement in District of Columbia. He has made the office function again, in line with the president’s agenda and the well-being of the country.

We believe Ed Martin will be an outstanding D.C. U.S. Attorney and urge the Senate to confirm him.

CHAIRMAN’S NOTE: While we missed the window to influence the Senate’s list Monday night, the White House can put Ed Martin in the position in one of these three ways:

1)    Senate confirmation (the traditional way).

2)    The Attorney General appoints an interim for 120-day max then the interim must be renewed, or a new interim is appointed.

3)    Federal Vacancies Reform Act - must already be in a Senate confirmed role or in a GS15 role for 90+ days.

The White House will have to decide on one of these three options. They can nominate a new person, appoint a new interim, or name an acting.
