The overwhelming majority of Americans say Democrats should NOT shut down the government, according to brand new polling from The New York Times. So, why did Democrat Senate Leader Charles Schumer of New York give the shutdown two thumbs up?
Easy – he’s afraid of a primary challenge from the Far Left (telegram for Chuck, it’s coming anyway) so it’s all about Schumer keeping his job as a Senator and Democrat Party leader, it’s about his personal power and job, not the welfare of the American people.
And even the normally Left leaning media are catching on that it’s clear their deranged, Radical Left base is driving the Democrat Shutdown:
- ABC News (9/29/25): “This time Democrats see some potential political advantages to a shutdown with their base voters spoiling for a fight.”
- Bloomberg (9/29/25): “Progressive Democrats are putting party leaders under enormous pressure to show they are willing to fight the Trump administration.”
- NOTUS (9/29/25): “With pressure on Schumer from the Democratic base not to cave without concrete concessions reaching a fever pitch, such a deal appears increasingly unlikely.”
- The Hill (9/29/25): “Democratic senators increasingly see shutting down the government to send a message to President Trump as a political necessity, Democratic aides and strategists say. These frustrated Democrats think they need to do something drastic to push back on the Trump administration and buck up their own demoralized voters.”
- The Washington Post (9/29/25): “Democrats, cowed by criticism from their left flank about the last spending deal they cut with Trump in March, are adamant there will be no agreement…”
- AP (9/28/25): “Democrats have suggested they are more willing than ever to allow a shutdown as they face demands from their base voters to fight harder against Trump and the Republican-led Congress.”
- AP (9/27/25): “The plan is heartily endorsed by many frustrated voters in the base and party activists, some of whom called on Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York to resign in March…”
- Business Insider (9/27/25): “Democrats, under pressure from their base, are eager to use the process to… at least demonstrate a willingness to fight.”
- The Guardian (9/27/25): “Congressional Democrats are under pressure to use their leverage to stand up to Trump and his administration.”
- AP (9/26/25): “This time it is Democrats who are making demands as they face intense pressure from their core supporters to stand up to the Republican president and his policies.”
- Newsweek (9/26/25): “Democrats remain under pressure from their base to hold firm.”
- The New York Times (9/26/25): “Democrats are eagerly showing their base that they are willing to fight… Their base is desperate for them to ‘do something.’”
- Axios (9/25/25): “The stalemate comes after months of Democrats being bombarded with demands in phone calls and at town halls to go all-out in fighting the Trump administration… Another House Democrat acknowledged pressure from the base is ‘part of [the] calculation’ as the party digs in on their demands.”
- HuffPost (9/25/25): “Many Democratic candidates running to join the Senate are urging their party’s leadership not to back down, further squeezing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who faced widespread intraparty criticism after allowing a Republican-drafted spending bill to pass in March.”
- NBC News (9/25/25): “With a looming government funding deadline, the biggest sin in the eyes of the Democratic Party’s base, according to party officials and activists, would not be losing to President Donald Trump in a shutdown battle. It would be refusing to fight.”
- Roll Call (9/25/25): “…given demands from Democrats’ left-leaning base to stand up to Trump no matter the cost.”
- The Wall Street Journal (9/25/25): “The party’s base voters are desperate for elected representatives to show more fight after months of demoralizing defeats.”
- Politico (9/18/25): “Under tremendous pressure from their base to show that they are willing to fight President Donald Trump, Democrats are flirting with a politically risky shutdown without a firm exit plan or even an idea of what victory might look like.”
- Axios (9/10/25): “A shutdown fight might be the only action that appeases their deeply unsatisfied party base.”
- Indivisible: “But in the last big funding fight, Chuck Schumer and a handful of other Dems surrendered… That cannot happen again.”
The fallout from the Democrat Shutdown hits Americans where it hurts: Critical food assistance for low‑income women, infants, and children will lapse. Americans will experience travel delays and disruptions to Social Security services. Funding for inpatient home care and telehealth services for Medicare patients will be suspended, along with some services for veterans. The list is endless as the effects ripple across all sectors of the American economy — and it’s all Democrats’ fault.
President Trump and Republicans have been clear: Republicans will not be held hostage by this unserious, shameful political gamesmanship by Democrats.
This shutdown is 100% on Democrats, whose radical agenda is poisoning our politics and punishing our people.
