Did They Die To Make The West Safe For Communists And Islamists?

This Veterans Day marks 80 years since the end of World War II. As of late 2025, between 66,000 to 45,418 American World War II veterans are estimated to be still alive, representing less than 0.5% of the 16.4 million Americans who served. After the immeasurable sacrifices made to defeat three totalitarian empires, what would the Greatest Generation think of the West today?

The contrast between the clear-eyed leadership of the West’s greatest wartime leader – Winston Churchill – and today’s feckless placeholders in government and the Christian Church could not be more vivid.

Speaking at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, King Charles seemingly abjured his role as head of the Christian Church of England and “Defender of the Faith,” a title bestowed upon one of his ancestors by the Pope, to embrace the multiculturalism that is destroying his country.

In a 1993 address, then Prince Charles urged the West to stop focusing on the “extremes” of Islam: "Our judgement of Islam has been grossly distorted by taking the extremes to be the norm."

The problem is that the Prince, now King, in his ignorance failed to recognize that what native British find objectionable about the Muslim invasion of their country isn’t “extreme.” Jihad, calls for killing non-believers, taking child brides and multiple wives isn’t extreme, its normative Islam, preached every week from every mosque in Great Britain.

In contrast to today’s British monarch, Sir Winston Churchill recognized the threat Islam posed to the West, declaring "No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith."

And, while America has just elected dozens of Muslims to public office, including Mayor of New York City, it is Mayor-elect Zorhan Mamdani’s Socialism (more like Communism) that represents the most immediate threat to the American way of life in New York City.

And for this Churchill also had wartime wisdom we would do well to hold close today, “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” And later, as Great Britain struggled under the Labour Party’s post-war Socialist agenda, “Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.”

Where is the Western leader articulating the fight against Socialism and Communism that clearly?

Recently, one 100-year-old British veteran of World War II, Alec Penstone, spoke for his dead comrades on a national television program saying, “My message is, I can see in my mind's eye those rows and rows of white stones and all the hundreds of my friends who gave their lives, for what? The country of today?”

“No, I'm sorry - but the sacrifice wasn't worth the result of what it is now.”

When he was asked to clarify what he meant by the shocked hosts, he continued: “What we fought for was our freedom, but now it's a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.”

Today, many Americans will make some performative recognition of what we call Veterans Day and the British call Remembrance Day, but how many of us are prepared to rise to Alec Penstone’s challenge to make the sacrifice worth the result we have today?

We have a Veterans Day 2025 challenge: Starting today, stand unashamedly for the values and culture the Greatest Generation sacrificed to preserve. Make it your job to stand against the totalitarian threats of Islam and Socialism. Tell your Sunday School and your fellow church members what Churchill said, “Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith.” Tell them what Islam is really about, educate them on the rapid advance of Islam’s Civilization Jihad against America, tell them God and Allah are not the same and urge them to join you in rejecting the assault on America’s Judeo-Christian foundations. Alert your friends, family and business associates to the creeping Socialism invading America’s largest cities, and get organized to make sure it doesn’t spread to your community. Make the result we have today worthy of their sacrifice.

CHQ editor George K. Rasley, Jr is the son of a veteran of World War II’s storied 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He will recognize his late father’s service today by going shooting with his Dad’s battlefield pick-up Japanese army rifle.
