Did Trump Just Blink In Minneapolis?

Two vastly different versions are circulating of the recent phone call between President Trump and Democrat officials in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The president said on social media that he had spoken via phone with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), before adding that he had a positive phone call with Frey as well. "I just had a very good telephone conversation with Mayor Jacob Frey, of Minneapolis," President Trump said, according to reporting by Blaze Media.

"Lots of progress is being made!" he added. "[Border czar] Tom Homan will be meeting with him tomorrow in order to continue the discussion."

However, Frey posted about the call on his account soon after.

"I spoke with President Trump today and appreciated the conversation. I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. The president agreed the present situation can't continue," the mayor said.

"Some federal agents will begin leaving the area tomorrow, and I will continue pushing for the rest involved in this operation to go," he added according to the Blaze report cited above.

The mayor went on to say that the city would continue to cooperate with federal investigations but not with "unconstitutional arrests of our neighbors" or to help enforce federal immigration law.

"Violent criminals should be held accountable based on the crimes they commit, not based on where they are from," he added.

"I will continue working with all levels of government to keep our communities safe, keep crime down, and put Minneapolis residents first," he continued.

That didn’t sound really “good” or much like “lots of progress” to us.

Nor does the fact that the State of Minnesota is still suing to get the surge of Border agents expelled from the state. A federal judge heard arguments on Jan. 26 from the state of Minnesota calling for an emergency block of the Trump administration’s deployment of thousands of federal immigration agents to the Twin Cities over the past two months.

The Epoch Times reported an attorney representing the city of Minneapolis, told Menendez that the plaintiffs were requesting that the court end the federal government’s Operation Metro Surge and return the city to the “status quo” of federal law enforcement before the launch of the operation.

He argued that the Trump administration is using the deployment of thousands of federal agents in Minnesota to coerce the state to end its sanctuary policies, which he said violates the 10th Amendment’s “anti-commandeering doctrine.”

That aspect of the 10th Amendment blocks the federal government from forcing state legislatures to pass laws or requiring state officials to administer a federal regulatory program.

“What we’re asking the court to do is to apply the 10th Amendment to prohibit the federal government from coercing the state into legislating or using its resources to affect a federal regulatory scheme,” the attorney claimed.

In other words, Minnesota and Minneapolis refuse to cooperate with ICE and will continue to refuse until the Supreme Court tells them otherwise.

Which again, doesn’t sound really “good” or much like “lots of progress” to us.

It has been reported by numerous outlets that some in Trump’s inner circle and many Republicans on Capitol Hill are concerned abut the “optics” of the Minneapolis ICE operations.

We hope the President is not swayed by these Nervous Nellies. The American people voted overwhelmingly for these kinds of operations, and they continue to support them despite the suicidal actions of Far Left insurgents in Minnesota.
