In another case of authorities obfuscating the obvious, the motive for the shooting, which was being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, “was not immediately known” and CNN, ever hopeful the attacker was a “white guy,” identified him as Ryan Lewis, carefully failing to report his Hispanic surname.

Here’s his drivers license and full name.
Reuters reported McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez later told reporters Mosqueda fired dozens of rounds at the entrance of the facility and U.S. Border Patrol agents returned fire. A member of Border Patrol's tactical unit, known as BORTAC, helped stop the alleged shooter, a former CBP official said, requesting anonymity to share details of the incident.
Law enforcement found additional assault firearms and more ammunition in Mosqueda's Chevrolet passenger car, which was parked nearby, Chief Rodriguez added.
"There were many, many, dozens of rounds fired by the suspect towards the building and agents in the building," he said.
In a bad case of FAFO, the facility Mosqueda attacked houses Border Patrol's special operations teams, according to a former U.S. Customs and Border Protection official.
The Associated Press reported Mosqueda was linked to a Michigan address, but was reported missing from a Weslaco, Texas, address around 4 a.m. Monday. Weslaco is about 20 miles from the Border Patrol facility.
“An hour and a few minutes later, he was at this particular location opening fire on the federal building and our federal agents,” Chief Rodriguez said.
Andy Ngo reported via social media “Little is known so far about Ryan Mosqueda, the man who carried out a shooting at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas before being shot dead. In one post I found of his on Instagram, he asks why Marines weren't sent to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but that they were sent to Los Angeles in response to the Mexican nationalist riots against ICE. The shooting, which injured three, follows an officer being shot in the neck outside an ICE building in Alvarado, Texas. People dressed in black had lured police to the area by attacking cars and smashing security cameras.
Mosqueda apparently arrived in a white two-door sedan, the vehicle had “Cordis Die” written on the side, which is a mission in the video game Call of Duty and translated to English means “day of the heart.”
The relationship between Mosqueda and inhabitants of Weslaco, Texas has yet to be disclosed, but clearly he did not drive straight from Michigan to McAllen to conduct his attack, which even for an amateur requires some intelligence gathering and operational planning from a base somewhat closer than 1,500 miles away from the target location.
At CHQ post time Chief Rodriguez stated that there is currently no known motive behind the attack. He stopped short of labeling it an act of terrorism, noting that further investigation is needed. The FBI has since taken over the case due to the involvement of federal officers and facilities.
