In a recent post to his must-read Substack our friend and occasional CHQ contributor Tommy Sears dissects who the Fake MAGA players are according to the only guy whose opinion on the matter counts: President Donald J. Trump.
As Tommy put it in his own inimitable way, Man, oh Manischewitz, it has NOT been a good week for Team Turncoat.
The ongoing attempt by Tucker Carlson and Grandma Groyper Megyn Kelly to coopt MAGA and undermine Operation Epic Fury ran into the brick wall of President Trump on Sunday-last. After Kelly went full-13-year-old in response to a Mark Levin X post critical of her, Daddy Donald showed up with a full-throated defense of Levin, making total claim to MAGA and America First and leaving no question as to its leadership in his wake.
Shortly before these events, Tucker fessed up he wasn’t scared of the big, bad ol’ CIA and DOJ in announcing on his own show that the former had issued a criminal referral of himself to the latter.
Then the bombshell reveal: Joe Kent, Director of the National Counter Terrorism Center and deputy to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, publicly resigned via a letter to the president on X.
“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” he intoned. “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
The obvious coup d’ gras to all the neo-conny war-mongers out there.
Except, good ol’ Joe is under investigation too, by the FBI! For leaking. Said investigation having been undertaken possibly months prior to his grandstanding resignation.
Oops. So rather than crippling the so-called “war of choice” (allegedly put upon Trump by Israel per Kent’s letter), he and Carlson look very much like two men trying to get ahead of a very bad story (if not full-blown criminal prosecutions).
This sequence of very unfortunate events for the anti-Israel and “no-forever-war” crowd is also accompanied by polling showing 80% and higher approval numbers for US action in Iran and President Trump’s oversight of it.
Each passing day further exposes the information and psychological operation that is being perpetrated (as I wrote earlier this month) by the ever-inconstant media, but they are now joined by what I’m dubbing “Fake MAGA.”
Fake MAGA is indisputably led by Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, but probably had its true origin in Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens. These latter two set out to begin an insurgency on the right by falsely claiming conservative philosophical ground for themselves and then disgustingly manipulating for their own advantage the aftermath and political vacuum left by the death of Charlie Kirk. To be fair, shortly prior to his assassination, Carlson had already begun his feud with Mark Levin leading up to the first strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites last summer. So let’s give equal credit to these three for the lead-up to the full-fledged insurgency operation we’re witnessing now.
Combine this with the aid and comfort that their anti-Israel, antisemitic and blame-America rhetoric provides to islamofascists in our midst (whether in the form of jihadist front-groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) or the Biden-era deluge of military-age illegals), and they easily join the mainstream press and Democrats as a fifth column posing a serious homeland security threat.
Conservative host Dana Loesch said this week that the Kent resignation exposed a “shadow war” underway for the 2028 presidential nomination. Palace intrigue is an ever-present feature of presidential politics, and Fake MAGA as named here is no doubt keenly interested and involved - best-case as Stalinesque “useful idiots.” More cynically they are no doubt positioning for their professional benefit no matter how the 2028 campaign ultimately turns out.
Yet infinitely more dangerous to the nation is that Fake MAGA are fellow travelers and have adopted isolationism and antisemitism as guiding principles. Along with the grievance rhetoric Carlson also frequently indulges, you get the ingredients for what might be described as isolationist Nazism. This is a danger to the nation far past 2028. It threatens the pillars of our society in undermining free markets and limited constitutional government (as the prescriptions - at least for Carlson -for lower-class economic problems are greater government regulation and intervention).
But luckily for us, Fake MAGA is looking like the gang that can’t shoot straight. So long as Real MAGA and its undisputed leader President Trump keep the pressure on the fakers like they have this week, this latest group of useful idiots will eventually get their consignment to the “ash heap of history.” And the rest of us in Real MAGA can get back to fixing the country.
