Wall points to his unique experience working at a spinoff of one of these groups, the State Financial Officers Foundation, which split off from the National Association of State Treasurers in the early 2010s after the group began advocating for leftist policies in state financial issues.
However, the National Association of State Treasurers is far from the only culprit. Other groups, such as the National Association of State Medicaid Directors, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, have also fallen victim to left-wing capture.
In his piece for The Federalist Wall demonstrates that long-term solutions are necessary for governors, elected officials, and state policy organizations in red states to address the problem directly. First, red-state leaders must recognize that these organizations are not neutral, apolitical entities. Then, they must start addressing the problem, working together to demand strong oversight and governance through active involvement.
“The solution is crystal clear: Treat these organizations like the political entities the left assumes them to be. Lobby them, get involved, pay attention, and work to make them better,” writes Wall.
