Red China Has Declared Economic War On America. Will We Fight Back – And How?

Our friends at the Committee on the Present Danger: China on Friday conducted a must-see webinar on Communist China’s economic war on the United States. We’ve got the full transcript and video in this article.

With Communist China’s announcement last week of an intention to impose sweeping new controls on the export and use of its “rare earth” and other critical materials, Beijing is manifestly waging economic war not just on us, but the whole world.

In a somber press conference with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington on Wednesday, Trade Representative Jamison Greer declared: “China’s announcement is nothing more than a global supply chain power-grab… It is an exercise in economic coercion on every country in the world.”

In response, President Trump has threatened to impose a further 100 percent tariff on Chinese imports if the CCP proceeds. He subsequently sought to defuse tensions, however, by suggesting that Chinese dictator Xi Jinping had merely had “a bad moment” with that power grab.

Meanwhile, even as Secretary Bessent expressed displeasure with the CCP’s threats and their impact on trade negotiations, Secretary Bessent clearly hopes to buy time – suggesting we just need to “derisk” our trade ties with China, rather than decouple them.

These mixed signals are depriving the American people of the clear information they require to understand our parlous situation with respect to Chinese economic warfare and the urgent need for us to undertake corrective actions.

For starters, depending on our greatest enemy ever for anything important is insane. We must stop underwriting the CCP and start fully decoupling now.

Friday’s Committee on the Present Danger: China webinar addresses these topics. In the process, we consider two letters the Committee’s leadership sent President Trump in response to two recent, and very worrisome, Chinese Communist Party gambits. Brian T. Kennedy and Frank J. Gaffney, the CPDC’s Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively warned about: first, a CCP proposal to invest $1 trillion in the United States in exchange for Washington easing or eliminating trade and export control restrictions with China; and then, Beijing’s announced intention to cut off exports of rare earth minerals to the U.S. and other Free World nations.

The first letter sent on October 6th and the second sent on October 11th shared a common recommendation: President Trump’s declared “America First Investment Policy” of February 21, 2025 is a necessary response to such Chinese “carrots” and “sticks,” aiming as it does to curb both the PRC’s inbound investments here and outbound U.S. investments there. After all, such investing has the effect of providing life-support for our mortal enemy and underwriting for its military.
