As our friend John D. Guandolo documented in his must-read report The Hamas-Muslim Brotherhood Network in the United States Islam’s war against the West isn’t something that is happening “over there,” the Islamists are here in the United States prepared to bring jihadi terrorism and death to our towns and cities and their plans have progressed further than our federal government is willing to admit.
According to the report, the Muslim Brotherhood, while amorphous in structure, is leading the Islamic movement in the U.S. It has branches in some 70 countries, some of which have been officially designated as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.
This movement “is well entrenched in American society, operating in the open, and waging total war along multiple lines of operation against the United States,” the report said.
“Without immediate and significant action taken at the state and local levels against the intensive, continuous, and withering attacks being waged by the jihadis, there is little chance for victory,” Mr. Guandolo concluded.
Now, House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, along with Senate Republican Conference Chair Tom Cotton (R-AR), have sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Bessent requesting the Treasury Department open an official investigation into the funding sources of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to determine if the organization is being funded or directed by Hamas or any other foreign terrorist group.
“CAIR’s founding and leadership raise longstanding concerns. Executive Director Nihad Awad and co-founder Omar Ahmad previously led the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP), which federal authorities identified as a propaganda front for Hamas,” wrote Chairwoman Stefanik and Chairman Cotton. “Both men attended a 1993 Philadelphia meeting of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, where participants discussed creating a new front group to support Hamas while concealing its ties. CAIR was formed shortly thereafter.”
CAIR's recent quiet settlement of a lawsuit that would have revealed its funding sources further heightens concern. This pattern of historic ties to Hamas, recent public rhetoric aligned with Hamas narratives, and support for radical activism, raises serious questions about whether CAIR's support for Hamas amounts to material support for terrorism.
