In remarks to New Hampshire Democrats Pritzker said, “Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption, but I am now,” he said during the address. “These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace. They have to understand that we will fight their cruelty with every microphone and megaphone that we have. We must castigate them on the soapbox and then punish them at the ballot box.”
Pritzker said, “Republicans cannot know a moment of peace,” let that sink in a second.
Back in 2018 Rep. Waters called on Democrats to publicly confront and harass Republicans. “Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere…” the California Democrat said in a speech, a remark she later reemphasized in an interview on MSNBC.
After Waters’ comments several Trump Cabinet members and Republican Members of Congress were mobbed in restaurants and random Trump supporters were spat upon and assaulted in various ways.
Pritzker’s remarks were castigated by Republicans — including the Illinois state Republican party and the White House — correctly noting that he was inciting violence with his Republicans shouldn’t “know a moment of peace” rhetoric.
Illinois Republicans issued a news release that said Pritzker’s remarks on disruption and protest constituted a call “for political violence against Republicans.”
“JB Pritzker’s ego-driven obsession with becoming President is putting Illinois, and Republicans across the country, at risk,” Kathy Salvi, chair of the state Republican Party, said in a statement. “His inflammatory and dangerous speech is focused on further dividing our country and I hope to see Illinois Democrats condemn his call for violence.”
“That’s ridiculous,” Pritzker said at an unrelated news conference when asked about the GOP response to his speech. “The peace that I’m talking about is making sure that they know at all times that the American public opposes the policies of congressional Republicans and of the White House.”
But Republicans and the Trump White House are all too familiar with what Pritzker means by “disruption.”
In March of 2016 a Trump rally in Chicago was canceled minutes before then-candidate Donald Trump was set to arrive at the venue.
As the New York Times reported, the rally in Chicago was canceled after “violent scuffles” broke out.
With thousands of people already packed into stands and music blaring to warm up the crowd, the Trump campaign was forced to cancel over security concerns as protesters clashed with his supporters inside the arena where he was to speak.
According to the New York Times report Mr. Trump’s security tried to identify and exclude potential demonstrators before they enter the event, but large groups of protesters had waited in line for seats and engaged in tense disputes with Trump supporters even as the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion was still filling up. For more than an hour before the event was to begin, security teams led protesters out, one by one, but many more remained, sparring with Trump supporters.
“People were fighting, ripping up signs, going crazy," said one Trump supporter who attended the rally. Arguments and small skirmishes broke out along the streets. At one point, the police rushed in, separating people.
At least one man was hit on the head with a police baton, witnesses said, and blood could be seen coming from a gash on his face. A woman, also bloodied, was led away by police, according to the New York Times report.
We’ve got the Fat Boy’s number. Pritzker can play as innocent as he wants to the Democrats’ media allies, while winking “it’s OK” at ANTIFA, BLM and the other violent thugs that make up the armed wing of the Democratic Party. We understand what kind of “mobilization” and “disruption” he has in mind, and we anticipate that Attorney General Bondi, Secretary of Homeland Security Noem and FBI Director Kash Patel do too, and that they will take appropriate action when necessary.
