It’s November 4th and while there were disappointments, there were few election surprises. People voted into power the same ones they formerly voted out.
In coming days pundits will ponder why Americans would vote for people sworn to dismantle our nation; that promoted censorship, mandates, and faked science, while unleashing the government to target moms at school board meetings and traditional Christians.
My own opinion the turnover was the result of multiple factors. Desire for change, increasing prices, Mideast fighting, a biased media, a cultivated hatred for Trump and capitalism, and a lack of election integrity. Republicans in power did little of what they promised and Trump was quick to tell voters what he would accomplish but never told them what it took to get there. There is plenty more.
The Way Forward
Most of all, I believe too many voters failed to listen with curiosity and an open mind to fully understand today’s complex issues from both sides.
COVID taught us the experts are often wrong, that studies are manipulated, that for politicians and many in government self-interest trumps the public welfare. We learned that government is a prime source of misinformation and that the media doesn’t report news, it paints pictures.
We can’t ignore these realities.
Finding truth amid this informational morass, while recognizing and setting aside our own bias is the major challenge we all face. Finding truth is the only way forward.
