Trump Weaves Humor and 2026 Midterm Message to Fire Up GOP

Entering the arena to Lee Greenwood singing “Proud to be an American” live last night President Donald Trump delivered a rousing, sometimes raucous, speech to an overcapacity crowd at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The President’s hour and 44 minutes remarks far exceeded their scheduled time, but President Trump was clearly having a good time recounting the successes of the first year-and-a-half of his second term, riffing on his media detractors and Democrat opponents, while delivering an at times sobering message about what’s at stake in the 2026 midterm elections.

While President Trump’s propensity for renaming geographic locations to tweak his opponents and detractors drives the “politics is serious business” pundits and self-appointed experts nuts, the crowd loved his hilarious riff on renaming the Strait of Hormuz, the “Trump Strait.”

Not content with renaming the Strait of Hormuz, the President had to remind the crowd of some of his other renaming proposals:

You know, Lake Ontario — we’re going to call that now Lake America. Although maybe it’s going to work out, Canada very much wants to make a deal. They’re trying to make a deal, but it’s going to be called Lake America. The other one we came up with today — well, we could go into oceans like the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic [Ocean]. We can’t have both; I don’t think you can do both.

But we did come up with one the other day, which we think is appropriate. [Texas has] a neighboring state — New Mexico — we think it should be called New America.

I tell you, the people love the idea. I don’t know about the radical Left — I’m sure doesn’t like it, but the people love it. New America, your neighbor is called New America.

And the President couldn’t resist taking another humorous swipe at “Sleepy Joe” Biden, "We had a president that couldn’t walk off the stage. You know, there are so many stairs, one here, one there." "He’d finish his speech. The speeches only lasted about a minute, so where am I? Where?" "Remember the time you walked into the wall in the back? You thought it was a stair?" "Couldn’t sign his name on a document, auto-penned everything, horrible."

However, there was a serious side to the President’s speech.

During his remarks President Trump rolled out a new midterm slogan in Dallas and it was brutal. And the moment he said it, the audience immediately broke out into “U-S-A!” chants.

They don’t care because they hate our country and they are Democrats.”

“And they’re very, very wrong.”

“On election night we’re going to prove that America does not belong to those who hate it, America belongs to those who love it.”

The President also announced a new proposal for a $5,000 “spend it in America” tax rebate that caused the crowd to erupt, while driving the Democrats and Left-leaning pundits into sputtering denunciations of the plan as bribery.

And the President did not miss any opportunities to deploy his trademarked humor against Democrat candidates, especially Far Left Democrat James Talarico, running for the Senate in Texas:

…here in Texas, Democrats have nominated James TalaFreako for the Senate, and he is a weird-looking dude. I mean, I don’t like talking about, but there’s something missing there. Remember Mad Magazine? He looks to me just like Alfred E. Newman, right? Alfred E. Newman. Texas is not heavy into the world of Alfred E. He’s Alfred E. Newman, and he’s a bad one. He’s bad. TalaFreako authored a plan to annihilate Texas oil and gas. That’s good. I’m working my ass off to get you oil and gas, and I got a guy that wants to end it. Would Texas be willing to end all oil and gas drilling? No way. And watch Texas file for the equivalent of Chapter 11. You know what it’s called? Chapter 17. If a state goes bankrupt, because that’s what would happen. This guy would be a disaster. And he stated that he wants to totally dismantle capitalism. Dismantle quote capitalism. He described himself as a person who hates Christianity, says that God is transgender. He called the American flag a complicated symbol of hate. Claimed that the 10 Commandments are a form of fascism, and when he was asked what he loved most in the world, he said, “I love transgender children, which you know. He was also somebody that hated eating meat, but he ran a campaign to beat meat. He called it “beat meat. I don’t know what the hell he meant by that. These people are going to tell me what the hell is he want to beat meat?

After tossing the script to riff on Democrat candidates and his media detractors the President returned to the teleprompter to close with what the night was really all about – winning the 2026 midterms and saving the country from the destructive policies of the Democratic Party and their Democratic Socialist allies.

After beginning the speech by admonishing the crowd to “pretend I’m on the ballot” the President closed with:

So, in 55 days, we will do what 250 years of American history absolutely demands.

We will defend our nation’s founding. We will protect our Constitution, including our great Second Amendment, which is always under siege; we will uphold the honor of our great heroes. We have great heroes. We will redeem the sacrifice of our ancestors. We will vanquish America’s enemies. We will raise high the torch of liberty that was handed to us, and march forward into a future of hope, pride, opportunity, and freedom on November 3rd.

Vote Republican for House and Senate, and with God’s help, we will lead this nation to heights of glory and achievement never seen before, even by our country at its best. Because together we will make America powerful again.

We will make America wealthy again. We will make America healthy again. We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again, and we will make America great again. Thank you very much, Texas. We love you all. God bless you. God bless you all. Thank you.

Our take is that after years of scripted speeches by professional politicians, full of canned political platitudes and promises that are never kept, Donald Trump’s ad libs feel like a breath of fresh air… and they’re funny as a Vegas headliner.

President Trump’s goal last night was to energize the Republican base to get to work to win the crucial midterm elections and keep the momentum of his administration going. And in that he most certainly succeeded.
