New Jersey's Democrat Governor Mikie Sherrill admitted Tuesday afternoon that thousands of noncitizens were registered to vote in her state — and something that Democrats claim never happens, happened – some cast ballots in past elections.
Sherrill claimed that a "serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens between June 2023 and June 2024, almost three years prior to my taking office."
"These individuals answered 'no' when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers' licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway," according to Sherrill.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting.
Sherrill claimed that “the system” automatically, but erroneously, registered these non-citizens to vote.
She also criticized “those in charge at the time” (that would be former Governor Democrat Phil Murphy) for a “lack of transparency” and their “reckless failure” for allowing it to happen.
Sherrill claimed about the illegal registrations that, "They were registered as Democrats, Republicans and Unaffiliated voters and were scattered across the state."
So, if this was an accidental computer failure, why the lack of transparency?
The apparent coverup by Murphy, a virulent Trump-hater, begs the question, was it really a computer failure, or was it an intentional act by someone on the inside of New Jersey’s notoriously corrupt Democrat machine?
And, to put a finer point on the question, how do we know it was a computer glitch and not a proof-of-concept effort to demonstrate that “the system,” due to the lack of a requirement to prove citizenship before registering to vote, could be manipulated to automatically register non-citizens to vote, and perhaps be programmed to register those non-citizens as Democrats?
The fact is, we have only Sherrill’s word, and her desperate attempts to shift blame to her Democrat predecessor, to backup her claims this outrage was caused by an unintentional computer glitch.
Our suspicions that something bigger is going on here were raised even further by Sherrill’s gratuitous attack on President Trump for what she described as spreading lies about the legitimacy of American elections, when all the President has done is point out that what happened in New Jersey is a predicable outcome of a system that does not require proof of citizenship to register to vote.
“What we do know is that in states that have started reviewing the voter registration files in order to weed out those [ineligible people] who might have registered, perhaps inadvertently… already there have been thousands of voter registration files identified in just the handful of states doing their own reviews,” Senator Mike Lee observed during a recent debate on the SAVE America Act.
Senator Mike Lee also noted that Democratic-led states are not reviewing their voter files and “refusing even to share their voter registration files with federal officials … which begs the question, why?”
According to the Census Bureau and a congressional report New Jersey ranks #2, behind California, as the state with the highest percentage non-citizen residents, about 25.0% of the state’s population are not citizens.
With a population of 9.55 million people, that makes a universe of 2.38 million potential non-citizen illegal voters in New Jersey.
Passing the SAVE America Act, with its requirement that an applicant prove citizenship before registering to vote would have prevented this outrage, and kept what was potentially 2.38 million non-citizens off New Jersey’s voter rolls.
The SAVE America Act is about three simple, common-sense protections:
- Proof of citizenship to register to vote
- Voter ID to cast a ballot
- Clean, accurate voter rolls
That’s it. Fair. Secure. Transparent. And yet—it’s being blocked.
